Interesting idea guys...I remember when I was a kid, my dad used to block off the radiator on our cars when it was really cold.
I'm pretty sure I cut the lines to fit when I did my install to avoid any significant sags. I think I will insulate the lines and then I'm going to extend the...
@Raider / @Easter Bunny, do you know if the throttle body coolant lines are 5/16"? Did your friend just use barbed brass tee fittings (is brass okay with coolant)? Or maybe it would also just work to extend either the inlet or outlet coolant hose from the throttle body, and wrap it around the...
I finally had some time to work on my car these past two days. My car has 138,000 miles on it. Here is what I found:
1) Compression Test:
Comp 1: 160
Comp 2: 163
Comp 3: 160
Comp 4: 162
2) Spark plugs looked okay to me. Re-gapped them to 0.028".
3) Changed the oil and opened the filter...
Thanks @SyntheticAtmosphere.
I suppose if there is oil in the intake tract and exhaust, that would indicate the turbo seals have failed, requiring a replacement turbo.
If there is oil in the intake tract, but none in the exhaust, the turbo should be fine.
Damn...didn't even think I'd need to...
Thanks for the heads-up @SyntheticAtmosphere. Did the slug of ice dislodge from the OCC line and impact the turbo impeller? Edit: I'm not sure this could happen with my setup because I'm running the DM stage 1 OCC setup with the lines running between the PCV and intake manifold.
How would I...
It was smoking a ton in the city...to the point it was hard to breathe in the car and was very embarrassing. It really really stunk too and was affecting how the engine was firing...it was missing a lot and wanted to die while idling.
Start-up fortunately sounded normal and did NOT sound...
I did as you said in your response. First time I checked it I waited 10 minutes and then came back to it with oil an hour later and checked again.
After getting the car home (after topping off the oil), I checked the level hours later and was a little over the Max line. I had added 2.4 quarts...
Hi All,
My worst fears about installing an oil catch can in a northern climate came to fruition...I wish I had never installed it.
We are in a deep freeze right now (-30 Celsius / -22 Fahrenheit) and I had an extended drive home (1.5 hours) after visiting with family. The majority of the trip...
Since the bracket is mounted to the body of the car, you wouldn't want to brace it back to the valve cover of the engine due to differential movements.
If he wanted to stiffen the design, maybe consider welding some triangular gusset plates between the vertical riser and mounting flange of the...
Totally agree with you. None of the fixed leaks from yesterday had any effect.
When I was doing my boost leak test, I had removed the TMIC so that I could set up my tester on the throttle body and check for leaks around the PCV area and intake manifold. I couldn't detect any audible leaks or...
In all fairness to me, I had what I thought was a competent shop look for and fix boost leaks less than a year ago and I hadn't been playing under the hood since then.
I do have a small concern...hoping I didn't fuck anything up, but I forgot to pinch the hose between the intake to the valve...
So @Awafrican had really inspired me to pick up a boost leak tester from Princess Auto (Canadian Harbor Freight), and man...almost every coupler was leaking on the intake to the TIP. It's amazing how tight you really need to clamp those couplers.
But the biggest leak was coming from the rubber...
So basically, if I unplug the secondary, I'll get a CEL, but ill just be cruising around like that to see if the fuel trim issues resolve. If they resolve, that means my secondary has gone bad?
I assume going WOT would be a no-go with the secondary unplugged?
Yep...had them cleaned and tested a year ago. Put Overspeed seals in.
@Enki will unplugging the secondary O2 sensor throw any CELs? Also, when I clamp or pull the EVAP line, I assume I clamp or plug (with finger on end) the part of the hose that runs to the intake manifold?
@Enki you rock man! Always appreciate your help and detailed replies.
I'll try those suggestions out this weekend. I don't personally know a speed owner, but there are a few in my neighborhood...i might consider knocking on some doors and introduce myself to see if one of them can help me out...
