The seam sealer arrived today. This was the cheapest I could find. I bought 2 tubes @ $12 each. Going to rain here for a week or so, plus Turkey day. I probably won't be updating thread for a week or so.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
Engine orientation same, but wouldn't matter. I'm using firewall, and complete dash out of speed, so heater hoses will line up like OEM. Fuel lines, and fuel tank will be swapped over from speed also.
Remember, all speed everything is being used on the protege body.
It's going to be a pretty...
I just thought about radiator hose orientation on radiators. Checked them, and they are almost in same place. I originally had planned on buying a 2 row all aluminum radiator, with matching shroud and fans to fit Protege. After measuring, I am sure the Speed3 radiator, shroud, fans, and a/c...

Yes, Protege has iron block. But engine is not the only weight being added. The Speed transmission, front & rear subframes, anti sway bars, exhaust, seats, all weigh more than Protege. Plus all the added bracing, and overlapping metal. I'm hoping it will be super light, but I'm still guessing...
The 09 Speed3 Sport weighed 3160 lbs with 1/2 tank fuel. 00 Protege weighed 2450 lbs with 1/2 tank. 710 lbs lighter, but once I install the Speed engine/trans, sub frames, bigger wheels/tires, etc, It will be much heavier than 2450 lbs. My guess is it will end up at 2950 lbs once completed.
Alright, got my base to work with. Of course it will need further cutting/trimming to fit. But that's as far as I am going with it. Now to get the Protege apart!
I will keep a lot of it for body repairs. My Datsun 510 has both quarter panels rusted out. I plan on using the roof material to fab up left and right patch panels for it. What I don't use/keep, I will just put out front on the City of Santa Clara's yearly free dump pickup.
Firewall, floorpan, and rear frame rails should be cut out tomorrow.
After that, clean up, organize.
Next I will remove engine/trans, front subframe, and rear subframe from the Protege. That will give me much more room to set stuff in place, and come up with a plan.
I am super happy with...
The Mazda3 spoiler fits the protege body shape perfectly! The speed spoiler mounts the same, just using this for checking fitment. I can make the speed spoiler look factory installed it fits so well. That's how close these bodies are to each other.
