John's BNR S3 daily driver performance build

My car seems to be undergoing a full devolution this season. I have been working on the car, I pulled the turbo and sent it to Bryan for repair. USPS has apparently lost the turbo. A local is bringing me a spare K04 tonight, which I'll install temporarily until I can get the insurance money...

    PSA: Low Compression Fix Adventure

To some degree, on two identical, healthy engines, I wouldn't think it would be realistic to see a 20 psi difference across the board like that...it seems outside the scope of simple parts tolerance. Maybe @AYOUSTIN can comment. FWIW, on my own engine, I haven't seen compression change over...

    PSA: Low Compression Fix Adventure

As far as we know he never had good compression to begin with, so, nothing to compare to. Car was bought used <1 year ago. Probably traded in due to low compression like many speeds. I'm sure the motor is down on power with the numbers he has, but still works fine and isn't blowing out the...

    ENM @ MDC 3! April 27-30, 2017

That sucks. The locals did mention to us while we were down there that they've had drought issues, which is surely fueling the situation.

    Cas' 800+ or Bust Build

It's definitely not the easiest thing to do. I've found interpolating the values in the bottom 4 rows (WOT conditions) of my WGDC down to pretty low throttle positions helps a lot. A lot of tuners, Cobb included on their OTS maps, have this big "shelf" of power you can feel the second you dip...

    Cas' 800+ or Bust Build

10.5:1 would probably be OK on a K04, but my understanding is that the nature of running a big turbo is you need a high wastegate spring pressure, so you might not be able to drop down the boost pressure enough to accommodate the higher CR. Also honestly I hate to be the one to rub salt in the...

    GenPu 2010-2013 Dash separation

Am I the only one that's had zero issues with this problem in my '12 tech? My mom's 2010 2.0 Mazda3 has also had no problems.

    Cas' 800+ or Bust Build

I'm amazed it lasted this long...it's a testament to how tough these motors really are. I would go stock compression so you can make more power on 93, but that's just me.

    Spark Plug Data Base

The Gen1 and Gen2 plugs are different part numbers, but the same plug, other than the gap was tightened to 0.028 from 0.031 going to the Gen2's. Both are made by NGK. Edit: I don't think the spec itself changed. I should verify in a speed6 or Juan manual later.

    Which Clutch Should I Get?

@JgamB and I are still using our original slave cylinders. The key is to ziptie the slave in the fully retracted position to prevent the rod from overextending and blowing the seals on the inside of the thing.

    Which Clutch Should I Get?

The full face and 6 pad share the same pressure plate. What you've described is exactly the way the 6 pad is when you drive it hard. I love it. It grips so hard it sounds/feels like a bomb is going off in the car when I drop the clutch while flat foot shifting. I do have Damond trilogy mounts...

    Smoke during normal deceleration

Furthermore the intake side valve seals are far more likely to leak because the intake valves see strong vacuum (and boost in our cars as well) whereas the exhaust valves don't really see any significant vacuum or pressure. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

MY view on Head Studs for the MZR

Awesome info, thanks for posting. Is there really that much distortion in the stock block even with a closed deck design? Where is your source info on this?

    PSA: Low Compression Fix Adventure

I know one local with low compression in cylinder #2, we tested his car and he made I think 175-155-180-180. It's not just a Gen1 thing. The pistons and rings are not really designed for how we use them.

    PSA: Low Compression Fix Adventure

I was arguing with Geoff earlier in shout about this...everything I have read tells me that once you have stuck rings or clogged oil control rings, you are fucked. Piston soaking has been around for a while. Some claim it works, others claim it does nothing. It clearly does something, but...

Mazda Dragon Camp Fall Edition October 20th-23rd

I will be arriving Friday afternoon as well and camping at the campground. edit: By the way, my car is down. :( I'm gonna need some passenger seat time with some of you people to get my dragon fix. :)

    Smoke during normal deceleration

Valve seals don't affect engine compression. I find it hard to believe that you could have 25% leakdown on all cylinders and still produce 180 psi during a compression test. Are you sure you did the leakdown test correctly?
