  1. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

If you've gotten this far and you are thinking... "wtf, how the hell is this ever going to hold together?"... Well you're right.. mistakes were made in the name of science? Can I get away with that? First issue... The turbo.. Although it was brand new, it didn't last... While it was working, it...

That inconsistent cut is interesting... Little things like this, I haven't found much talk about when I've been digging through old posts... thanks for the added info..
  3. 2008 MS3 running rich -25 Stft at idle

2 possible problems... 1) a leak between the throttle body and turbo... With the top mount intercooler I doubt you are plugging the throttle body and smoke testing the system to build a bit of pressure to see this..(edit) Looking back at the data you posted.. Your MAF g/s looks high for the TPS...
  4. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

Pictures of assembling the car jump quite a bit... Since I didn't like the T3/T4 turbo combo, I wasn't confident with my stock turbo after what it had been through... I went with this turbo.. The one I picked up as part of the Escort/Fusion turbo kit package.. This runs a T25 flange.. If you...

I wonder if its a case of early attempts to build a better valve weren't that great but it might need to be revisited... The Audi/VW world has blown up when it comes to tuning and upgrades.. I've had the pleasure of working on and driving the CTS Turbo Golf R development car..
  6. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

Autotech fuel pump internals upgrade, with an E85 safe seal kit.. I was going to do a bit of a "make sure you check this stuff" kind of post with this. I am not sure what happened to all the pictures I had of my stock worn out HPFP... There are area's of the housing and such to keep an eye out...
  7. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

With cylinder head #2 off at the machine shop I figured I could use cylinder head #1 to still do some mock up/fabrication work.. The bottom end was fully assembled, transmission bolted up.. You can see oil filter sandwich plate below the oil cooler, and the -4 an line ready to us for the turbo...

So what kinda of motor does $2k buy you?? The seller had a video of it running before he pulled the car.. This "should" be a decent motor right? Well crap! that's not good.. Let add insult to injury... I had lent a friend my KLG4 V6 swapped Mx3 to drive while I borrowed their truck to pick...
  9. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

So, how much further off the rails can this build go? Well.... My stock throttle body was missing.. I dug through everything and couldn't find it... A corksport larger throttle body was cheaper than any replacement stock throttle body I could find.. If you're going to install a bigger throttle...
  10. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

The build took a back seat for a while as I took on some other projects at home.. At work I moved to a new location where I'd get to focus on my bosses project cars.. At home I had my friends 99 Camaro we did new suspension, sway bars, shift kit, custom ECU tune. Custom built brackets to fit...

So at the time of the land slide, I mentioned my car had been sitting in the back compound at work where it was broken into and a bunch of stuff was stolen... I had a large FMI, piping kit, my stock intercooler, stock exhaust manifold, a knock off T3/T4 turbo and some other parts stolen.. This...

I've found some more pictures.. So we are going to take a step back and have a look at some of the differences between 2.5L and 2.3L timing chain components... both 2.5L chain guides on the Left... both 2.3L ones on the right. This is the tensioner side guides stacked on top of each...

The building with the tyvek was 2 stories.. The 1st floor was wiped out.. The 2nd floor is sitting on the mud.. The coach house/Garage thats damaged and twisted almost fell over... If it had, it would have taken out my new shop.. half of the bottom floor of both the houses was wiped out.. load...
  14. Tuning for CST4 turbo

I was going to get more into all this info as I wrote out my build thread... but after reading your post I think there's some important information to pass on to help fill in some gaps... First off, your current problem sounds like a possible ignition misfire from a bad ignition coil, or spark...

When doing the timing, you've got brand new friction washer installed correct?? Absolutely no oil, or any lubricant on any of the surfaces where they go? If you've got a copy of the install information for doing timing chains, there's nothing on the crank gear that gets lined up... There's...
  16. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

August/September of 2021 the build took a back seat.. I bought a new house, moved started taking time to setup a new home garage... For those of you living out here in the PNW, you might remember the disaster we went through in November of 2021... Major rains caused a major flooding issues, and...
  17. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

I guess it's time to start building this motor now.. Lots of time spent measuring, second guessing myself... not remembering if I wrote down the correct numbers... I had taken on WAAAY to much at this point in my life.. My boss was pushing for me to finish his 67 Camaro build.. So I was...

IF you do end up down that road... You've gotta be specific to get them to disassemble the head and remove all the valves to inspect... I've run in to machine shops that will just vacuum test the valves... This can be a problem due to the carbon build up that happens... That carbon is softish...
  19. hoodratkp's MS6

Valve seats, and valve faces on the exhaust side are common to have issues with wear and carbon build up... It would have been a good idea to get the machine shop to go through and resurface the valves and seats... This would have required that they had all the tappets and cams.. they would have...
  20. Taking a journey through pain and a misfortune. A speed6 saga.

Lets get into the important details that can get heavily debated depending on who you're talking to... Pistons! 2.5L piston.. interesting dish shape to it... I didn't want to spend the time measuring compression chamber area's, so I don't have information on how this might changed or effect the...
