    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

So are you basically saying every carbon steel bolt will get into the plastic range at the same time if using the degree method? Seems to me TTY means torquing the bolt enough to reach the plastic region. What is new to me is you're saying every bolt including oem, arp, other carbon steels all...

ah so all that matters is the angle. interesting. That still confuses me about TTY bolts but ok

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

I thought a TTY was calculated so that it reaches the right amount of stretch to create the strongest clamp. So how could that apply to the ARP bolt which I'm betting has different qualities. It doesn't make sense to me. Or is also designed to be a TTY? I don't think it is because they specified...

    Easy cylinder head cleaning?

Supertech makes good products. Idk specifically for Mazda's since this my first one but I had Honda's before and everyone uses Supertech everything. I used Supertech stem seals in my b16 head. Make sure you oil them when installing.

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

Someone told me I could reuse the crank gears. Do they actually go bad? I got everything else new oem. For the ARP crank bolt I thought the point of using it over the OEM was that it's reusable? I read somewhere that since ARP's use lube their tq readings will be different than bolts that are...

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

Thanks homie. I was just unsure cause the ARP will not stretch like the oem and was thinking the oem stretching would relieve some strain on the crank threads. Since the ARP doesn't stretch it transfers the tq directly to the crank threads. But I guess its fine. Bearings: oddball Kevin also...

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

So I should torque it to 90 degrees? Would one of these be needed? I saw one guy do it by marking the bolt with a right angle mark then torqueing it down till the red mark reached the 90. My Harborfreight 1/2 tq wrench only goes up to 150 I believe.

Would you happen to have a link? That number is blowing my mind. No risk of stripping the threads?

    Drag Racing Times List!!!

lol. Same man. I went a couple times with all seasons in my Hondas and I just sat the the light spinning. Once was even all motor in a light hatch. But I did get a decent roll out if I launched it super low.

Act 6 puck disc with oem pressure plate

Anyone try this combo? One person said no, but I never got a clear answer. Looking at it myself I don't see why it wouldn't work since the pad area is the same. Only thing I can think of is if in the middle it would touch a plate finger but I don't think it will. Many clutch companies use the...

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

Thanks. This video is about installing rings not what ring gap to run. From what I gather: Sho " sub 400whp, 0.019 top 0.022 2nd 550+ whp 0.020 top ring and 0.022 2nd ring at 36psi no oil burning till 85k 700+whp 0.021 top ring and 0.024 2nd ring, Chris' Garage 21mm top and 24mm 2nd ring gap JT...

    Ring gaps, keying and bearings

Can someone help me quell my OCD over ring gaps? I'm getting 87.75 Manley's and was thinking to do .020 top and .024 bottom like JT. Then Sho says these engines like .03 between rings and that .027 is way to large and will burn oil. Then CP recommends .04 between rings. I understand you need...

    JohnnyTightlips Build "Maximum Carnage"

Holy hell 280lb ft? Then the ARP spec of 140 would be way too low. Most harmonic balancers are two piece with rubber in between. But looks like ours is a 3 piece?? Can you show a pic of your separated teeth? JT is not keyed.

    JohnnyTightlips Build "Maximum Carnage"

Damn. So I guess it is true that keying is necessary for 500whp+. I just might key mine at SP63. Would only cost about 250. But wait, Overspeed's stage 1 is rated at 600hp and is not keyed. :nusenuse: SP63 700hp rated stage 2 is keyed. What did you torque your ARP crank bolt to? 140? I wonder if...

    Excessive Crankcase Pressures

According to Nishan at Speed Performance he recommends an oil cap breather (gen2 valve cover), and a breather on the other valve cover port and a sealed catch can with the pcv. He said its good for 700hp. Skip to 4:16. Unless someone else can tell me otherwise I'll probably go this route. If...

Looks good! It's going to be a while before I can get started as I'm still waiting on my pistons to come in from backorder. And still I need to get state inspection and emissions so I need to pass those first without touching anything then I'll port it lol. Gonna be a minute.
