Built motor DD and cold weather starting??

I’ve never driven a stock MS6 that is working right, so I can’t compare as far as a DD is concerned. After getting the Freektune OTS+ I’d say it’s a little twitchy sometimes. More so than Cobb’s OTS tunes. Feels sort of race car like. It’s comfortable enough for my taste though.

Built motor DD and cold weather starting??

For what it’s worth, I used the Manley Platinum pistons (2618) and I’ve not noticed any issues. The car warms up pretty quickly, probably faster than my Audi A3 and my daughter’s Mini Cooper. I’m in southeast PA and it’s not full winter yet, but I’ve had some evenings in the 20’s and days in the...

    Dipstick direction?

Yes, well when I posted the thread it was about 1/2 quart difference :) I know 1/2 quart isn’t a huge issue, but it prompted me to wonder if others saw this and which side is more correctly reflecting the oil level.

    Ticking sound?

Once the RPMs settle down after a cold start it seems about the same. I’m not sure I can hear it before then. It does seem louder at the exhaust manifold heat shield rather than the cat shield. If it’s an exhaust leak would that likely suggest an issue with the exhaust manifold/gasket?

    Dipstick direction?

Sorry for the silly long time to reply. This actually isn’t as dramatic as what prompted me to start this thread, but it still shows it. Maybe about a 1/3rd quart difference? Here’s with the etching on dipstick facing down (or toward front of car when inserted): Facing up (or toward back of...

    Ticking sound?

For those who know this particular engine well, I wanted to get some input on ticking sounds. 1. It’s much more audible from inside the car with the windows shut. I didn’t even really notice it until I’ve had to shut the windows due to it getting colder. 2. I used a stethoscope and the loudest...

    Dipstick direction?

I just noticed today for the first time that when the oil level marks on the dipstick are pointing down toward the ground when the dipstick is inserted, the oil level on the stick is about 1/3-1/2 quart higher than when they are pointing up. Has anyone else experienced this. Which way is it...

Cranks, starts, then dies unless manually choking it

Is it definitely black smoke or perhaps dark grey? What does it smell like? Maybe it’s running too rich? In that case, I’d suggest checking the throttle body/connector.

    Tire size?

I just noticed the factory tire size is 215/45R18. This is a surprise because I bought the car with 225/45R18 and just assumed that is the factory size. I looked it up and I see 225 as an alternate tire size. But it got me wondering what others run on their cars. And is that extra centimeter...

    Oil Consumption/Engine Issues

I actually had two cans of that when I was trying to de-carbon the head when I was rebuilding my engine, but I think I threw them out when I was done (they weren’t empty). Can’t believe how much they are on Amazon right now. Do you think the CRC intake valve cleaner would be similarly effective...

    Oil Consumption/Engine Issues

It seems to me if you’re burning a quart every 500 miles you’d see it. No? I had a 2003 Hyundai Elantra which would burn almost that much once the oil was tired, and you could see a really nice puff of smoke when accelerating with the RPMs up to 6000. Do your tailpipes have residue? I thought...

    Headlight assembly different types?

Are you saying the regular 2006 Mazda6 headlight assembly won’t fit or work in a Speed6? Or are you referring to putting HID parts in a regular 6 assembly? I’d actually prefer to get rid of HID and I was considering finding a regular 6 to get the headlights from.

    5th gear clutch slip/deglazing?

If this helps at all, here’s the Luk flywheel. Quite a bit cheaper than buying it from Mazda (and I’m guessing it’s identical). RockAuto sells it too.
