I've still got my Speed, @Awafrican . For now at least. But it's a 13 year old performance car with a stiff suspension and a high strung maintenance queen motor and I'm a 44 year old man with a family. Enough was enough.
So now I'm in a gen4 Turbo. A '24 3 Premium Plus. It's stunning in soul red and the full aero kit. This is a really great car. And, it absolutely moves. I drive it in manual (paddles) mode frequently. It feels as fast as my Speed did below 80mph. Need to figure out a mod path, or if I'm just...
This technique bought me two extra years of clutch life FWIW. It did eventually fail and would not hold boost at all even in 3rd, but the deglazing delayed it for some time.
I didn't see a protune from Freek or PD on that list. And, any particular reason why you're running a 50w oil with this platform? Not too often you see an actual JDM speed in the wild, are you Navy/Marines based over there currently?
That's always been the kiss of death for turbo seals and this car has been 100% reliable for the entire 12 years I've owned it. Anyway, this thread got off track - highest g/s for a k04? Honestly I just posted this thread to help generate some traffic on this site as the Mazdaspeed3 subreddit...
I'm not convinced there's much else left on the table with a k04 that's flowing almost 270g/s. The old forums are long gone, but the general gospel was always that a stock exhaust with a test pipe was enough to max out a k04. A CBE is a nice noisemaker but TBH I'm over 40 at this point and don't...
Just finished a protune with Freek and hit 268g/s on 93 octane while on a pull in 50 degree F temps a few weeks ago. Original k04, original owner, most bolt ons (intake, TMIC, etc) but stock exhaust with just a high flow secondary cat. What's the highest g/s for a k04 car that anyone's aware of...
Does this actually run? Would like to see some clips of this thing in action. Has anyone even done this before? Only other DISI transplant I can think of is the Mazda5 that Motor Trend did more than a decade ago.
Update to this thread: turns out I had a leaking BPV. I was running a Turbosmart Kompact Plumback. Swapped it out for the OEM and it pulled cleanly all the way to redline, holding boost. I then opened up the Turbosmart and found that it had a green spring (i.e. too light). Swapped it for a pink...
Could you have clogged oil control rings? Especially at that mileage. At least one of the guys over the the r/mazdaspeed3 subreddit was able to free them up via some of the stuff that comes in a bottle and cut their oil usage down to a fraction.
Forum is quiet these days... guess there aren't that many of us left. Anyway, I swapped out the Turbosmart for the stock BPV, and the issue feels about 90% better. Guess the Turbosmart was the culprit. I did notice that the spring on the OEM BPV was much, much firmer than the Turbosmart, so I'm...
What's up fellow Mazdaspeed monks - I've got a '12 MS3, owned by me since new, 119k now, the usual bolt ons with the exception of a DP. Stratified tuned by Nolan about four years ago. I've left the car alone since that tune with the exception of adding a Turbosmart Kompact BPV to replace the...
Something seems off on that old log. 1.9 load, 75% WGDC, and less than 20psi of boost don't really correlate with 320 g/s IMO. Who were you tuned by? FWIW I hit 2.2-2.3 load on a good cold weather log.
I do like the new gen 4 cars a lot - my daily is a CX-30 base model these days. It's a much...
260 g/s on a tuned/bolted '12. Stock k04, 118k miles. First time I've seen g/s on a gen4, interesting. Wonder if an aftermarket will ever take off for those.
These look like slicks? Of course you're hooking like mad in 2nd. I'm on Comp 2 A/Ss and they actually hook amazingly well for what they are from 2nd gear on up at around 280whp.
My '12 has been paid off since 2016. Still enjoy every minute behind the wheel, even as it's no longer a daily (got...
Every fall, come the onset of boost season in October (highs in the mid 60s F), I get clutch slip that lasts for a week or two than mysteriously goes away. Going to try this reglaze again this year and see if I can put off a clutch for a bit. I have an LUK clutch kit and a Fidanza sitting in the...
Car feels like it's running fine, yet I swear I hear what sounds like the "woooshhh" that's characteristic of a boost leak. The attached datalog appears to show that things are in order as well (MAF G/S feels a little low for a car given tune and mods, but I'm hitting 21psi - it's been humid, so...
You got a brand new DISI longblock from Mazda for that much? You made out real good. They've always been overpriced at shit as compared to the KBB value of the car.
