    No I completely understand now. I hate to admit it but I connected the cables wrong at the trans when I re-installed the engine. I was in a hurry to get it done. Probably why my cable snapped. But with 220K miles on the car it was probably going to happen soon anyways. What a dumb mistake.

    So the cable on the side of the shifter with the adjuster clip is the one that controls up and down? I'm so confused. I think what you're saying is basically the cables do not cross over. Right goes to right on trans and left to left connection on trans when looking straight ahead from drivers...
