    HPFP O-rings

X-rings require a little finesse when installing so they don't get twisted or torn, unlike round profile o-rings that are a bit more forgiving. If you have a pick set (HF or other) carefully use the pick to get the first section of the x-ring seated. Use lube and take your time.

    HPFP O-rings

Glad to hear they all worked well for you. I double checked my Drive folders and since it's been over a year since I sold my MS3, I seemed to have deleted the folder hosting the Google Doc with the info. Thankfully the important stuff with McMaster Carr links is hosted here. It's been over a...

How to: Genpu Power Steering Fluid Flush

I have no idea, you'd have to look into whether it's comparable with what Mazda uses. Unfortunately, the Asian manufacturers don't use published spec numbers like the European manufacturers do.

    Transmission Breather, crack pressure?!?!

Great write up, thanks. I noticed the same build up of pressure the last two times I had to remove the fluid and wondered why the vent wasn't working. To your point on the 4WD world, all four vents on my Land Cruiser have a hose and filter and it was my plan at some point to do the same on the...

    Blown axle or LSD???

I've got all the manuals as well so if it comes to that I should be in good shape. Since it still capable of moving on its own I stabbed the axle and put it back together for now. I'll peruse the other site and see if I can find Tomas' post. For gee whiz I reached out to GKN UK yesterday, no...

    Blown axle or LSD???

Well, not encouraging findings. Pulled the axle and no apparent damage other than the hole in the boot. Drained the rest of the fluid, no chunks. With the axle removed and the wife turning the opposite tire the splines appear to turn the opposite direction than she was turning like a normal...

    Blown axle or LSD???

I had a few mins last night and drained out part if the trans, no bits, a good sign. I reinspected the inner boot, stretching and pulling to see if there are any holes. I did end up finding a small hole I could squeeze grease out of. Since the puking grease started post bang and I haven't hit...

    Blown axle or LSD???

Before I drain the trans I'll have to try the wet grass trick, I don't wish to cause any more damage than I've already done. I massaged both inner boots and no holes or leaks noted. The outer boots are made of some stiffer plastic that can't be manipulated much.

    Blown axle or LSD???

So, something went bang yesterday when I launched on my final run of the day. I chalked it up to things possibly moving around despite the mounts (CS TMM insert, DM PMM, CPE Stg 2 RMM). I completed the run about .5 second off my previous runs so nothing was obviously afoul. It drove the 35 miles...

Proven Parts List - Common Parts that don't suck

So, the Flennor and others that cross reference to that P/N compare to OEM measurements as shown below. Dimensions are center to center of the attach bolts. OEM 300mm E46 M3 270mm Making the difference 30mm or ~1 3/16" This difference takes away some of the induced load on the bar when...

Proven Parts List - Common Parts that don't suck

They aren't specifically for coil overs, more for lowered cars in general. I ran them for a short time before I fabricated adjustable links. I don't have the specific measurements for OEM and the Bimmer links but they are shorter by and inch or so. I'll try and find the figures and send them to...

Proven Parts List - Common Parts that don't suck

Here's a few of the more recent parts I've purchased with good or better results. Toyota oil filter 90915-YZZD3 (mfg by Denso). For the international folks with a spin-on get your hands on 90915-2004, same size as the YZZD3 but far better filter media. ATP RA129 cabin filter w/ charcoal...

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

I'm at the end of the line for now. I have managed to move the subframe as much as possible to resolve my camber issue, unfortunately I wasn't able to get as far as I'd hoped but it was an experience. Without further a do here's the before and after results on the front-end: Before camber...

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

Since this is now somewhat of a diary in my quest to even out the camber available and gain as much caster as possible, I have made yet another and likely final adjust for now. I was able to get the subframe to slide left another 5mm however after taking some other measurements I'm still off...

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

Update..... Following the body shop debacle that lasted a month, weighing the car and getting it back on an alignment rack I have some feedback on the subframe shift. Caster Before above subframe adjustment L 3.6* R 2.9* After L 4.0* R 3.5* Although they are not matched they are slightly...

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

Once everything is loosened up the rear slides back and forth easily so no twisting unless you set it that way. Screw idea came from Zenit on the other forum and worked out great for more precise control. His thread was full of dead pic links so I thought creating one here with uploaded pics...

How to: Adjust Subframe for Camber/Caster Adjustments

I can track down before specs but no after specs yet, I need to replace the inner tie rods (nuts seized) and can't adjust toe. I should have taken a pic of both camber plates before because they were on opposite sides of the strut opening, not approx the same between both sides. I'm not going to...

    Alignment and handling talk

Here's some camber adjustment info that may be helpful. I found an alternative camber plate setup from Silver Project while seeking more camber and adjustment for autocross. These are nice if you don't want to drop the coin on GC. They are out of the northern coast of Poland and make many...
