I just can't keep this engine together!

Thanks for the replies so far guys, Re: INVALID The leopard printing in the cylinders definitely seems like a pattern. The guy at LA sleeve said it could be something to do with the mettalurgy in the casting or liner or something. Speaking of patterns and autocross... I didn't even get to...

I just can't keep this engine together!

Hello all! WARNING! WALL OF TEXT INCOMING! Tldr at the bottom Backstory: I bought my 07 speed 3 as a project back in 2021. Previous owner gave me two torn down engines, a trans, and the rolling shell. My dad and I (who has alot of experience with this stuff, not speeds specifically) rebuilt...

    partial throttle surging

Apologies for the lack of updates I bought versatuner during black friday 2023 and was fiddling with stuff last winter. I found that under Accellerator Pedal Calibration > APP Mapping xxx Gear, the stock mapping is exponential: and when i made it linear: the surging went away and I have not...

    [SOLVED] A/C Receiver Drier direction?

sorry for the delayed response, turns out the drier was in backwards! I was able to find pictures on rockauto of a condenser with drier already on it and of the service manual (thanks to a friend at my local dealership) which showed the single flange bolt on the opposite side from where I had...

    [SOLVED] A/C Receiver Drier direction?

Hello All! TLDR: I have a 2007 Speed 3 that I recently did a bunch of A/C work to. Its cooling but not as well as it should be and we (my Dad and I) suspect the drier may be in backwards. Does anyone know which way its supposed to go? I currently have the "drier In" side (with the long tube...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Update: After getting the car back together and broken in, I finally got around to testing the hot engine, engine off fuel pressure thing and it was doing pretty much the same thing where the fuel pressure would slowly climb to about 1500psi, hang there, then slowly drop. I retested the next...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Well when I said last month that I'd be "replacing the check valve as part of a bigger job this weekend" Yeeeeah that didn't happen... I had to pull the engine for unrelated issues. I don't plan on getting the injectors cleaned but will replace that valve when I go back together and report back...

Want an intake manifold but need EGR for CA smog

Great explanation. Also explains why two check engine light codes come up when disabling the EGR system. I wonder if there is a way to filter the EGR or something, like how we add catch cans to our PCV lines to catch the garbage before it makes it to the intake system.

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

phate Good idea about the prv and good point about the plugs Also, do you think used injectors are more reliable than old rebuilt ones? I guess cleaned injectors are different from rebuilt... Also when the injectors leak is it usually like a gradual leak till they get bad or do they usually...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

I will be replacing it this weekend as part of a bigger job on the car and will report back! There's also a chance that my testing may be flawed. The car seems to run OK as far as I can tell. What I think might be happening: .. I run the car to get the engine hot .. Pull in the garage or a...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Thanks for the reply. Is this a common failure point? Since they don't sell one separate, that makes me think probably not... A friend says he might have one from an old pump housing he would give me, if not ill PM you and set something up!

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Follow up. I don't appear to have an external leak. Either an injector is leaking into the cylinder (which I don't want to believe as I had them cleaned and tested recently) or this little check valve at the bottom of the HPFP is bad I can't seem to find a mazda/Ford part number and the number...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Hmm... Yesterday I checked my fuel pressure after getting home from work (like 30 miles) and it actually went up a bit before slowly dropping. I had to drain my fuel rail when replacing the PRV, maybe there's an air pocket trapped in there messing with my test? Is there a way to bleed this...

PRV replaced, fuel pressure still tests low while off

Hello! While troubleshooting a misfire, I ran a Fuel Pressure Relief valve test and it tested low. From my understanding, after shutting off the car at operating temp, the heat of the engine will heat the fuel in the rail and the pressure should rise to ~1800 PSI before the pressure relief...

    MafCals for Bigger Intakes

I've been putting this off forever but am finally about to start this process for the first time with versatuner and i noticed that the values in my stock tune were waaaaaaaaaaaaay smaller than the values listed here. The range of values in my stock tune went from 0 - 43.59, but the recommended...

    partial throttle surging

--Response to L337: Suggestion attempted but unfortunately, the throttle does not open when i depress the accel pedal with the engine off. I understand the confusion, the plunger thingy it is not a throttle position sensor in the traditional sense but is referred to as such by parts diagrams...
