Boost Line Source Question

Just a random question I had after checking out a friend's Speed3 with a slightly different setup than mine regarding the vacuum lines for the boost controller.

For context, I have an EWG and the setup below mirrors mine, with the exception of my wastegate being external rather than internal.



My question is my boost source is straight from the turbo, however my friend has his turbo nipple capped off and his boost source is T'd into the intake manifold line that runs to the BOV. I haven't seen a setup like this so I was curious the differences.

Is there any difference or improvement getting your boost source from the manifold versus the turbo?

The vac line from the BOV/manifold to the EBCS would be much longer than one from turbo to EBCS, which is less than ideal for a vac line that could have potentially serious issues if it fails like this one. Longer line has more volume and will take ever so slightly longer to meet the same pressure as a short line, though the biggest/real issue is opening up more potential failure points.

I got my gen 2 with a 3 port EBCS with the vac line to the BOV, and I have since rerouted that line to the compressor housing with silicone lines because the old rubber hoses cracked and started to leak. Cleaned up the area and made it simpler to deal with. Another popular option is using a vacuum distribution block like the one Damond sells to route all vacuum sources to like BOV, EBCS, boost gauge, etc. If it is currently mounted to the compressor housing though, I wouldn’t worry about it unless you have a bunch of other stuff you want to draw boost/vac reference for.
