Catless downpipe advice - TurboXS vs eBay downpipe

I'm in the market for a catless downpipe for my 2009 MS3. Ideally, one with reduced bungs that didn't throw a CEL would be great.

I have one guy who will sell me a used TurboXS downpipe for $170. The other option is an eBay downpipe, new for $110ish shipped to my door. What is the move? I hear mixed reviews about the eBay dp, but I haven't really heard anything about the TurboXS one. Also, which (if either) is less likely to give me a CEL?
 
I ran a TurboXS exhaust system and down pipe on my MS3 Gen 1 for years without any issues. You'll be fine. I do recommend using their exhaust with the down pipe. Mostly due to flange/fitment. The car sounded good and wasn't ridiculously loud with it installed. It was a full 3" system.

It wasn't as loud as the car with the TurboXS down pipe and the stock exhaust with a resonator delete. That combination was annoying and embarrassing.

Oh really? I am running my stock exhaust with a resonator delete. In my case, I'm not looking to upgrade my exhaust yet, just a downpipe and testpipe for now. Do you happen to have any clips of the car with the TurboXS DP and stock resonator delete exhaust?

Would I be fine at least fitment-wise with my stock exhaust + turboxs dp + corksport testpipe?
 
The car sounded like complete shit. I highly advise against it. I don't have any clips but it was loud enough that I got dirty looks, complaints from my neighbors, and stopped by the cops.

Just save up cash and do the exhaust and downpipe at the same time. You'll do the job once and be good. However you need to have a catalytic converter if you're in California. So an aftermarket downpipe made by someone else is probably your best bet. Unless you add a converter into an aftermarket exhaust.

A catalytic converter will not hurt performance in any way. It's just un tuned cars running rich which kill their life span and cause drivability issues which is why most get deleted.
 
I wouldn’t agree with catalytic converters not hurting performance in any way. While usually minor, they do limit exhaust gasses. This isn’t a performance issue for most people, but the higher horsepower builds will see power gains.

I am registered out of state in South Dakota, so no emissions tests I need to worry about.
I will try and heed your advice though, hopefully I can get an exhaust and downpipe at the same time down the road.
