Cooling For Long Distance Drive

Taking a trip out of town to Las Vegas & I'm trying to set my car up maintenance & performance wise to have a headache free trip. Last time I took a trip down that way I was driving my friend's Chevrolet Camaro which was fresh off the lot. Now I'm taking my car but I have a concern of keeping the car at stable temps during the entire drive from California to Vegas. I'm going with a FMIC setup & water methanol injection prior to the trip but I'm considering swapping the radiator for a Koyo one. Not really sure what my options are at this point. At the end of the day as I mentioned before I want the least fuck ups during my trip down that way.

I drove from Central Florida to North Caroline with no temp problems and others have made further drives. I really don't think you will have any cooling issues unless you have a lead foot the entire trip.

No lead foot, I'm very laid back on how much I'm throttling on long distance drives plus I'm topping off on corn before leaving & taking 2 jugs of the stuff with me. I also have a full list of the E85 stations within my near vicinity.

You really should be fine.

This happened to me on my way to Atlanta and it blocked most of my radiator and i saw my temps rise. I had to pull over and remove it. This is like the worse case scenario as to why your running higher temps.

I think the problem was parking next to the Honda covered in painters tape. The plastic bag was fine.

Most definitely, I just always take precautions prior taking longer trips just to avoid being the guy stuck on the side of the road lol. Damn that's a random thing to catch while on the highway. Good that you noticed the temps rise before any real issues started appearing.

I drove from Illinois to Colorado with my speed jammed full with stuff and 3 people when I moved in June. It was 80-95 for most of the ride. No issues. You'll be fine.

They wanted to protect their paint job while traveling to Nopi Nationals in Atlanta. A guess going 80+ mph will tear off plastic wrap with painters tap with ease.
 
The Speed3 was made for road trips. It will cruise when you want to relax but has the power to pass and not be bullied on the open road. I love it for road trips. I've done a couple of road trips on it already and I've not had any temp issues. I do make a point to stop at the designated rest stops though, which are usually 1-1.5 hours apart here in Texas.
 
I take mine all over AZ and it gets a touch warm here. Good AC and I get 25-28 mpg running pretty much stock on Top Tier Premium...I like Costco gas. The nice thing is that I can drive this car fast and still get good mileage. When I take my CX-9 (2015) and cruise at 83mph I get 17 mpg!

I went IL to CO straight through to fondle @monkey.bones.007 and I didn't have any issues. And my car is satan so I can promise you'll be fine. Shit I drove it all the way back with a vacuum leak and nothing happened. Just sounded like a jackass every time I pulled over for gas.

Don't forget you also had much frame rail protector stuck to your car too.

That's true! That little fucker held on for dear life. Shit it stayed on all the way until I had to jack my car up and found it was still there.
 
Lol thanks for all of the responses guys, just making sure I'm all set properly for my trip. Feel a lot more comfortable knowing other guys have made long drives with no real issues.

I dont know if adding all of those things RIGHT before a road trip would be wise. If it aint broke dont break it right before you need it to not mess up.
 
Plenty of folks, including me, have towed long distances with the 3, NBD. Watch your temp gauge if you're concerned.

Well right now at the moment my hoses have been coming off under boost for some unexplained reason. I'm seeing the stock clamps are wearing out & no longer holding firm.
