engine knock on WOT.

Hey guys.. I keep getting engine knock on WOT..

here is a log.. The wheels were slipping a bit..

I just swapped out the injectors with some clean ones..

didn't see any major boost leaks.. ( could be wrong)

Thoughts?

Who's your tuner, and what fuel and oil are you running?

Initial glance shows you running rich as fuck, but that shouldn't cause knock. Will edit post with more findings if any.

Edit:
Running rich as hell and pulling timing; likely not real knock but being treated as such. If you can throw a gallon or two of E85 in the tank, that can help rule out actual knock as the octane should skyrocket, and potentially lean out the fueling a bit for the first WOT pull after.

Fuel pressure and everything else logged looks normal though; it could just be worn out or getting some oil in the combustion chamber (thus drastically lowering effective octane) due to engine mileage though; could pull the intake mani and inspect or use one of those snake cam things through the throttle body to inspect the valve guides and valves for crap/oil leaks.

Yeah you should absolutely top it off with 91 after you add in the gallon or two of corn.

Justin is doing the tuning.. on base map. 93 fuel

So when I did the injectors.. I saw a ton of oil in the intake manifold.. I replaced it pcv but it wasn't on super study. (My fault) so now is should be fix, but maybe that cause the oil situation..

I was getting engine knock before all this and I never cleaned the injectors.. so that could have been the original cause.... They are cleaned now..

I need to clean that oil out of the manifold sooner than later..

I'll try adding e85 in.. see if that helps a bunch..

Thank you guys. @Enki @jsmith

@Enki So I put a gallon of e85 in.. and did a wot pull.. got around 3.5 of Kr..

I do have to clean out the intake manifold and throttle body of oil..

any other ideas? or once i clean it up, it should be okay?

Is that a lower amount of KR than it was? You might have to go to 2 gallons to see a marked difference...

Also if the problem that's causing the oil to collect in the intake manifold is ongoing, then that is what needs to be corrected first. Oil mist/vapors do the opposite of what ethanol does to these engines.

@Enki Hey man! I cleaned out the intake manifold and throttle body.. lot of oil stuff.

it got NO engine knock!!! hoooray !! praise Above! I added a bit of e85 to it as well.. about 1 gallon with more than half full tank of 93.. I added a new log.. hope that one is better!

side note.. sometimes my brakek light flashes and appears briefly on the dash when i go WOT... any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

The e-brake light? It's probably just the switch.

Also, with the second gallon of corn in there, that suggests the knock is real and has to do with octane. I would wager that if the oil comes back in the intake that you still have a fine mist of it coming in from somewheres (and that should be addressed ASAP).

Note that your car is NOT FIXED yet; you still have work to do.

So the oil i think was from when i messed up the PCV valve.. the little black ring that holds it in place wasnt put on well, and the valve was coming off. I think that caused most of the oil..

you could be right about the KR and the fuel..

Ill probably need to fill it up with gas this week, and ill see how it response with just 93 oct in there..
