HPFP help!

my new corksport internals are stuck in my pump! went to torque it down to finalize my install and it wouldn't go that far. removed it twice to make sure it was threaded correctly and threaded with ease but would not torque that far. now my bolt is stripped from trying to get it tight enough and taking it on and off.. not sure how crucial this 40ft lbs is and or if my new internals are stuck forever! any help is appreciated
 
40ft/lbs is not really necesarry.

Just torque down the threaded cylinder that holds the internals, and get it "good and tight" without going incredible hulk on them.

Can you get them apart at all? It might just be an Oring that is binding

As Mauro said, if you didn't lube up the o rings, and you don't have a stable vise setup to put the pump into, then you're going to have problems.

As for the bolt being stripped, I can't help you there. I don't know what you'll be able to do for that one since I am like 75% sure that is all nice, soft aluminum.
 
Make sure you use a 6 point socket when ever possible, you get much more bite. Higher end deep sockets will fit over the spring without have to compress it, makes torquing easier. 30-35lbs is plenty tight. Make sure shards of metal from your stripping retaining nut are not getting into your pump. If the nut is stripped bad try to switch to a different smaller socket size, maybe 11/16? Post pictures se we can all see what exactly is going on. F/S section had a oem pump for sale if you end up ruining your pump.

yeah I used a shitty deep 18mm from harbor freight that I had to compress the spring to reach the bottom. coupled with a shitty bench vise are most likely the reasons I stripped it. I would trust how tight I have it now and install it to see if it's alright but the metal shavings like you mentioned that might have made their way into my internals from stripping the nut kinda deters me from doing that. I have to figure out a way to get these out to disassemble and clean my corksport internals before reinstalling with the nut off of this pump that's coming in the mail, but I will try 11/16. I hope it fits over the internals!

everything was lubed up nicely. I followed the corksport instructions to the T but will admit the vise was definitely not the best and the socket used could have been better. you are more than likely right as for the aluminum though, it is soft metal for sure

You should def pray to whatever God you worship. Get a decent 18mm deep well socket and see if you can grab it enough to loosen it. It should not be that tight as the way you cross threaded it and tightened it with compressing the spring probably kept it from engaging super well. You will for sure need to vice to hold it but you will need to be careful with the fuel lines on the side. I have a how to on rebuilding the entire pump, check that you as it might help.

im honestly thinking about just taking it in to a local auto shop to help break it loose and just install it with the screw from the used pump I bought.
 
hey guys, had a local German autoshop extract my internals from my pump. figured since it's a Hitachi pump they would be more familiar with the specificity of my problem. they literally had to cut the pump open in order to get my internals out! I'll put a picture up later of the mangled pump but luckily I had bought a used cx7 pump to switch out. Everything is well now, psi steady above 1750 at wot

just an update in case someone runs into this issue down the road
 
so another update. fuel pressure is dropping like a MF while cruising. got all the way down to 57psi!! I took a log if anyone can check it out that might know what's going on. hit up corksport with a log as well. been doing relief valve tests and that looks to be fine. first noticed after doing my WOT log yesterday. parked and a couple minutes later I got a sudden drop but then back up to normal idle psi. any help is appreciated!

Pull the pump again and clean it. Try to avoid destroying this one though.
I had a shop assemble how it currently is... and to be honest not sure if I trust myself after last time to even fuck with the pump especially without a solid vice
 
Could be clogged by debris somewhere during install or what was suggested up top Oring tear or scoring. I know yours is showing at part throttle bu I've seen some returnless PI cars go wot at low gas levels drop to in-tank pressure like that.

would it be stupid to take this situation to Mazda to deal with? I would stock out and flash back to stock beforehand
 
Not if you'd rather spend money than time.
I've been spending lots of both on this situation already unfortunately and time isnt on my side. I have Saturday off though, so I will pull the pump and clean it then, leaving the internals in place since I don't have a great vice. I drove the car about two miles home from work this evening with the pressure holding up fairly normal around 1650 with no boost. on deceleration my pressure drops to around 300, not sure about that
 
I can see the thread title of probable solutions to my problems on MSF yet can't follow any links, the time I need it most :clap2:
