Cam sprocket slip, what causes it?
I know some can be caused by install error, not following the service manual, but what about cars that have gone 10's of thousands of miles then just slip?
This seems to be random and mostly blamed on user error on the other forum.
Here's my issues and those of you who follow me on Instagram know what happened.
I have right at 25,000 miles on my built bottom end. Everything was done per the service manual to the letter, new cam bolts and washers, new crank bolt and washers, torque wrench calibrated.
I do drive my car fairly hard with a few 1-6 gear pulls a few times a week and 1-4 pulls daily. I get shift studder 50% of the time on the 1-2 and 20% on the 2-3, rarely on the 3-4 and up.
I was making a pull got some shift studder on the 3-4, not unusual but it's rare, then at 6k the motor shut off.
I get it to the house and yup both cams slipped!! Why??? after 25k would they just slip? Has anyone come up with a reason besides install error?
I would buy that all day long in the 0-5,000 mile range but no way not after 25,000 fairly hard miles.
I'm far from making enough power and I'm not running super stiff springs.
My chain, guides and tentioner are fine. But my spelling sucks.
