Maxpeedingrods Turbos

Hey guys,

I’m starting this thread because I recently found myself in a last-minute situation needing a new turbo. Unfortunately, in my local area there was nothing available right away, and since this car is my daily, waiting for a rebuild or a more proven aftermarket option wasn’t really possible.

So I ended up ordering a Maxpeedingrods turbo.

I know this brand has very mixed opinions, but at the same time I’ve come across some surprisingly decent reviews. The price is extremely low, which obviously makes me cautious, and I’m genuinely curious about the real-world quality and reliability.

The main reasons for this thread:
  • to start a discussion about Maxpeedingrods turbos
  • to find out if anyone here has first-hand experience, especially on Mazdaspeed platforms
  • and to see if people would be interested in updates once the turbo is installed (install notes, spool behavior, driving impressions, issues, etc.)

The turbo is already ordered, and once it’s on the car I’m happy to post honest updates, good or bad, with no sugarcoating.

I also want to add a bit more context..
I have a few friends running DIY turbo setups on BMW E36s, using universal turbos, and surprisingly they’ve had no real issues with them so far. That’s one of the reasons why I’m not completely writing this off from the start.

From what I’ve read, one of the problems someone ran into was not making boost at all, but it turned out, that car only needed proper tuning to build boost correctly.
I also came across a case where someone ordered a K0422-582 for a Mazdaspeed 3, and they were also not hitting the expected boost levels. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a clear follow-up on whether that was a turbo issue, tuning-related, or something else in the setup.

That’s exactly why I’m interested in gathering more real-world experiences here.
Appreciate any feedback or input

BTW. my English is maybe ass, not a native speaker...

Ive thought about upgrading my turbo when I replace my motor. Would a BNR S1 or S2 be fine? Im not looking for crazy power but I do want to upgrade from the Ko4
S1 is stock. S2 is heh. Go for a CorkSport CST4 or 5 depending on goals. I have one of the first CST4s, like 3rd one for production, and over 70K no problems.

The chinacharger is a bad idea. Throw it in the trash for a proper upgrade.
I bought Maxpeedingrods turbo just for direct replacmenet, not for long period, I hope.. Becasue if i want to buy bnr/cs turbos, VAT and shipping to my Czech will nearly double the price of the turbo itself.. That is the whole problem.

Ofc there are some plans, upgrading hpfp, turbo, intercooler etc., just for daily driving (~300HP), but at this time, it is only for OEM replacement for this moment.

Hopefully yours won't fail has bad as it does for everyone else. You can also get CorkSport turbos from the UK distributor too.

These Chinese turbos are widely known as junk.

I purchased my Speed6 about 18 months ago and replaced the turbo that was replaced shortly before I bought it. When I went to replace it with a well rebuilt and slightly modified K04 I found locally from the MSP clubs around me, the one I pulled out seemed to be a MaxPeedingRods turbo given the sticker over the S/N looked similar to what I saw on their turbos. The turbo had gone bad in nearly every way possible aside from catastrophic failure. The PO of the vehicle got the car from his brother when he passed, and his brother had the turbo replaced at a local mechanic, and by the time I was replacing it the turbo only had ~7k miles on it. While there were some problems with the overall install from before that I’m sure didn’t help it last, it still failed remarkably quick.

Like with all parts, sometimes you just need something to keep it running until you can get the better part or have time to rebuild something the right way. That is all the MaxPeedingRods turbos should ever be used for. Monitor the turbo/engine heavily while it’s installed and plan for better parts when you can.

Those problems are likely the cause of the failure. When you see stuff that that indicates installation problems you can't blame the part at that point.. Doesn't matter what it's reputation is.
