Hey everyone,

New here. I have a 07 speed 3 with full bolt ons and i bought a 2nd gen motor from a friend and just got it hung in the car. I have a few questions. I know the block is the same, however I have realized PS pump is different along with AC compressor (they will be swapped). my question is should I take the ECU from my car or the one from the 2nd gen (does it matter) next questions is I have had a person whos pretty handy with his speed and well versed in it tell me that the harness to the coil packs is different can anyone validate that for me as well as anything else i should change over from the 1st gen motor to the 2nd gen motor to make it work in my 1st gen body. I cant find anything about it on the internet... any and all help will be appreciated!!

thanks in advance.

Coil pack harness should be the same.

Just swap over your accessories like the power steering pump and a/c compressor.

Keep your ECU, it has to be married to the key and gauge cluster for them all to work. A gen2 ECU will not work in a gen1.

Coil pack harness is actually not IDENTICAL but sort off same.

Gen 1 will have the capacitor (located behind HPFP, just above the EGR area, and im not sure what is that capacitor for but its wired with positive lead for all the coilpacks)

Gen 2 does not have the capacitor

Other than that its plug and play,. (same)
