MS6 BAT control

Hello all who remain!

I've been battling high bats from an aftermarket exhaust manifold. I already wrapped it to help but I still run into 150F bats while cruising.

I took a thermo camera to my engine bay to find out my exhaust at 250C and almost all intake and boost tubes at 50C.

Has anyone had success with making a heat shield for an aftermarket exhaust manifold? I was thinking of getting some sheet metal bend to bolt to the engine hoist bolts and fold over the manifold. Turbo blanket for the BNR S4 seems like a lost cause after getting a GT25 blanket that was too big.

I also have a FMIC which needs some helps with ducting more air into it but with the thermo camera it was only at 30C compared to all the 60C piping. I have also left the ducts from the front bumper open to flow air into the engine bay,

Anyone else have high bats with a Ms6 and know how to help? I would love some tips.

You need more airtight ducting on the intercooler.

Agreed, but what about the 60C under hood temps? Anything to help with that?

What brand FMIC?

It's a decent size core it seems like and is what, 3" thick? I am running less power obviously but have s much smaller ebay core snd no issues. I know these might be basic questions but are your fans working and no other signs of overheating just in BAT's? Are you running the s4 at it's absolute peak power? Pics of setup please?

i just went through this with a CX racing intercooler. i changed the core for a Treadstone TR8 and now my BAT's are better. methanol install this weekend.

Well the meth kit will definitely bring them down so there's that lol

Here are some pictures of my set up.

Let me know what you guys think I should do to help with my bats, I have methanol injection already if you can see it. If my memory serves me correct, it's a D014 nozzle for fueling and cooling.

Is that a wiggins clamp on the piping above the engine?

First thing that jumps out is that you have no undertray between the front bumper to underneath the intercooler / radiator.

Yes, wiggins type (HDI branded) of clamp on the hot and cold pipes.

The under tray is there but the front stock splitter is trimmed to fit the intercooler. The MS6 undertray and front splitter are two different pieces. My first fix is to close this gap to force the air into the intercooler. Do I need to do more about managing my underhood temps though? More/better heat wrap? Heat shields?

I have any upgraded radiator to go in this week so when I put everything back I will trim from plastic to close the gaps around the front rad/intercooler. I'll post some results with temp differentials after I figure out what else I need to do.

Anyone had luck blocking off the old TMIC ducts or adding more venting?

Your upgraded radiator is only going to delay the heat soak of the cooling system. Thermostat is still going to open fully at 217 or so (I think) when you sit in traffic. It may cool off faster, but still same upper limit. Does SP63 or whoever not sell the fan controller anymore?

Stop asking about heat wraps and shields until you have the front end of the car put back together correctly. Nothing you could possibly do will be as effective as forcing the air through the intercooler instead of letting it go around

I already have the SP63 fan controller for the coolant temps. That's why I asked about BAT's. I never said I have cooling issues with my engine coolant.

Thanks Easter Bunny for your input, but if the thermo camera showed my intercooler core being at 30C and the surface temps around it were 33C, I would say it's doing a decent job. Yes, it could be more efficient by forcing air directly through it so I intend on doing that this weekend.

I think that since going from TMIC with ducting, to FMIC, there may be some air flow issues/buffeting inside the engine bay but I have to fix splitter gap first.

How is it possible for your intercooler to be colder than ambient temps? Some funky chinese thermodynamics going on there.

Run a hobbs switch tiny meth nozzle and call it a day. It'll save you money vs cobbling together heatshields, useless heatwrap, etc.

My mistake, surface temps around bumper were at 33C. Thermo camera doesn't read air temp. Made an edit.

Just don't have a need for guys running their mouth online yet can't even pay for a membership

I'm not sure where asking questions and clarifying information is running my mouth.

And I'm pretty sure you would act this way regardless of the colours around my avatar.

I thought this was a community for people wanting to learn about modifying their mazdaspeeds and contributing to a knowledge base. But I guess you and I see differently about it. All the best.

Well you are right and I don't mean to get upset but I must've misinterpreted how you were meaning to come across. I apologize for getting crappy and hope you continue to be a presence on the forum.

No harm, no foul.

I just want to learn and help others. Clearly making heat shields is a waste of time compared to other solutions. I will post my results and some thermo pictures so everyone can see what happens with each modification. I apologize if I come off as little bitch, I have to work on that lol...

I want this forum to be the better version of the old one that had very toxic behaviors. But I do wish we had that knowledge base back from a the old posts.
