MS6 Budget Brake Upgrade

Hey all, I recently ran into someone who lives near me and has a speed6. He figured out that 2013 Toyota Sienna Calipers, Caliper Brackets, and Pads bolt right onto 2013 CX-9 Rotors. He even showed me his car with them on it. So today I decided to try it, and it does truly bolt right up!!

I wanted to come on here for anyone wanting to upgrade their brakes but dont want to spend a crap ton. The sienna is quite a bit larger than the stock size. It does feel a bit better on the brakes honestly!20250816_170845.jpg 20250816_170845.jpg
 
That's a pretty cool find. I do wonder if there is any selection on high performance pads for the sienna calipers

Side note, I see you can get some reman version of these for cheap at AutoZone or O'Reilly's..
Maybe a pick and pull trip as well.

I miss that about Jacksonville. The number of junkyards I could visit during a weekend. I have to assume it's only gotten better.

I am running stock RX-8 Wheels. My buddy who found this out I believe does have the stock MS6 wheels, and they fit good! Been running this upgrade for a little bit now with no issues!
 
Gotta do my brakes soon after something got embedded in my rear passenger pad and scored the shit out of the rotor. Would be excellent if you could provide a little more detail about this modification like part numbers, what caliper bracket was used (sounds like the Toyota piece but want to be sure), and whether or not the flexible brake lines were compatible or new ones need to be sourced/made.

It looks from a quick search that the CX9 rotors are 12.6” inches diameter also, so are they being used here because they are cheaper than Speed6 parts and work fine, or is the thickness of the rotor different because the new caliper requires it?

That would be great, I was gonna do all 4 corners since my rear rotor is toast, but I’ll do the rears now and hold off a bit to the fronts until I can gather the pieces. I’ll try to do a video on it too once you send the parts required.

Any more info on part specifics for this? Your original post after rereading does seem to explain most of it, but the flexible brake line compatibility is the one piece that is missing. If you are able to clear that up I would be happy to give it a shot and do a thorough write-up on it if you don’t have the time.

At the moment Rock Auto has sales on a lot of individual brake parts like rotors and calipers so now would be the ideal time for me to get moving on it.

Hey, honestly, I completely forgot to do this. I work at an independent shop where we use Federated Auto Parts. I simply called them up, told them I wanted two 2013 Toyota Sienna front calipers ( Federated Auto always supplies the mounting bracket with the caliper. Usually this is standard practice, but make sure you get the mounting bracket too). I ordered the Mazda CX-9 rotors cheaply from Detroit Axle, as I was a bit skeptical this would work, and didn't want to ball out before I was sure it would fit. I will supply where I ordered them from. I will look into looking up the part numbers in my order history for Federated Auto Parts. As for the brake lines, I have the stainless steel brake lines. Mine fit right onto the new caliper, so I would definitely assume they would fit onto yours. The only small snag I ran into was that I knew my car had been hit in the front driver's side before, which meant that the area where my caliper mounting bracket bolted onto the steering knuckle was a teensy bit crooked. All I had to do was just drill out the steering knuckle hole, and it fit right on. The passenger side bolted on perfectly.
 
Thanks! I should be able to get it sorted out with what you supplied. It looks like both the Sienna and CX-9 of that year have only the one brake package regardless of trim (don’t even get me started on BMW when I helped a friend do his brakes and he ordered a kit that didn’t fit because his was made 9/2009 instead of 8/2009 so the brakes were entirely different). Good to know the banjo bolt and length of the OEM flexible line are compatible.

It’ll be interesting to see how it feels with a little bit more brake pad area and clamping force in the front. I know that to this day the way the AWD system works is still somewhat of a mystery. I heard tell that this system uses ABS as an eLSD on the front of the vehicle, and I wonder what the impact on that system may be.
 
That is honestly interesting. I'll be curious around wintertime what it will feel like, too. Something new that I've noticed is that a few days ago, I was doing some highway pulls, and when I went to slow down on an off-ramp, I actually started to get some pedal fade. I'm wondering if I need to bleed the brakes again. I believe the fluid may be getting hot.
