MS6 from SATX

Lurked on the other forum for a while but never was looking to do anything to my 6 as it is(was) my DD. Never did anything to it performance wise, on my 2nd VVT actuator:(. Have had issues with oil burn for the last few years and oil smoke under extended idle (cold or hot). Oil light started flickering at very low idle when hot a couple weeks ago while stuck in traffic. Motor started making noise yesterday, so I guess it's time to get busy on this thing. So, hello! Looking for advice on where to go from here.

Would like to have 300 whp on pump gas (is this possible?)(Don't really want to mess with e85, unless tune switching is a thing) Don't really want to go crazy with second fuel system and such, I have a real project car for that.

I'm thinking I'm going to pull the motor apart and redo it. Want to at least do pistons and rods. Hopefully the crank is ok. Are there any big gotcha's with the MZR blocks? Any places that are recommended to rebuild it if I don't want to do it myself? Is the balance shaft delete worth it? Keying the crank worth it?

Any clues what the oil burn/smoke at extended idle is? I was always told it's either turbo or valvestem seals; my guess would be turbo. Not sure if I'm missing something that will just turn up again once rebuilt.

HPFP internals? Who is recommended now (or still around for that matter)?

What turbos are being used now? I saw a while ago that the GT series was being recommended. I'm not sure if that has changed recently. Is it possible to put on a new turbo and DP and have working emissions stuff or no CEL?

COBB vs Versatuner? I have not messed with either, but is one more capable than the other? Or does it come down to who is tuning your car?

Glad to see you joined instead of just lurking lol Also, glad to see someone else with a speed 6 that is willing to fix it instead of just parting it out. I would say that shed built is a popular option I think and a guy named something keefover or something like that. Others on here may know more but 300 is possibly for sure on stock fuel but just possibly not as easily achieved with a ko4 as another turbo such as a BNR S3/4S4 (which is a much better turbo anyway).

Accessport is much more user friendly and allows you to see things in real time where versatune is a laptop hook up type deal instead. Most tuners I feel like tuning with an accessport better but the main 3 or so tuners that are most reputable are comfortable in either. Feel free to pm me if you want more help or advice man and enjoy the best speed forum around!

Welcome to mso! Sorry to hear about your issues.
1) Oil smoke is probably the k04 (stocker Turbo) and a replacement of that will probably solve that issue. Yes the Garrett GT turbos are great, 300whp on pump gas is very doable. I'd recommend the BNRS3 turbo for your power goals.
2) hpfp absolutely mandatory if modding: autotech or CS are the go twos with Autotech getting my vote and still probably the most recommended.
3) Cobb access port is certainly better than versatune, less Hassel and some early adopters of versatune are coming back to Cobb
4) engine: all you really need is a is pistons and rods like you're planning. Cometic head gasket, Manley h beams, Manley c/r dish pistons and some h11 head studs form freektune and you'd be set for 650whp ish as a daily probably.
5) engine builder overspeed motorsports is getting a really good rep but they're backed up. Ebtec also had a good rep not sure whats up with them these days
6) injector when seals you do put a fresh engine back in plan on fresh seals, 300whp should be fine with new OEM ones but I'd get yourself a set of overspeed seals. While you're at it also send your injectors for a cleaning while the engine is being built.
7) Balance shaft, yup quite common to remove it because if you don't get it back in perfectly it'll be a bad time. You'll need more oil to top-up engine sure ride will be slightly rougher at idle but nothing unbearable imo

Ended up swapping in a used motor to see where that would get me. 500 miles in and have oil pressure issues. Got home last night and the oil pressure light was flickering at idle. Running a 5w30. Tested the pressure hot: 10 psi at idle, 42 psi @3000 rpm (spec is 43...) Have a few questions:

1. What psi does the oil sender switch at?
2. What is normal hot idle?
3. 5w40 going to address this for a long time? Or is it just a temp fix?
4. Oil analysis? What do people normally use? Will it tell me if I have bearings worn out already?
