Muffler weld broke, options and questions

08 speed 3. I bought this a few months ago and it has a mazdaspeed 3 inch catback that I was told was a magnaflow offered hy Mazda. It's old and I dont have pics but can get them.

Anyways, the muffler on this catback is right before the rear axle. There is only an exhaust tip after the axle.

The muffler weld broke at the exit of the muffler. I can push the pipe back inside but it's not staying.

I plan to head to an exhaust shop but pretty sure they will not try and re weld it and say I need a new muffler. Since I don't know what kind of mufflers they have, anyone have a good recommendation that I can maybe buy and install myself? All I can find are catback systems and see very few threads talking about mufflers.

I recommend a straight pipe from the turbo to the rear bumper.
You could go to harbor freight and get a mig welder and try to fix it your self. You can do anything you set your mind to with enuf beer and a lack of competent supervision.

Muffler shop should be able to weld it up. If not, replace. How is everything else?

Just installed catless downpipe and holy crap, what a difference in power! Now spiking to 19psi finally. Car runs great, now have all the basic boltons and gonna stay here a while.

I was able to jb weld and then wrap it with exhaust tape and its holding for now. Probably won't last but will fix later

Now you should get a tune for reliability and power
After a lot of research on msf in a few threads by certain users, I bought a used hypertech and it works great. I have no intention to ever upgrade the turbo and require expensive tuning. I would never pay full price for a hypertech. Now that versatuner is offering a cheaper alternative, I should have waited and got that. Still may

Quoted for prosperity. And lulz. Sooo i remember the days when i said all i will do is a intake ....

If there is only 1 mod you want to do to make this car last as long as it can its called alcohol. Now before you give me some excuse why you cant because of some special reason OR why u cant have it because your situation is special... dont cause idc.

A simple stage 1 meth kit or e85 blend will prevent knock and excesive heat. Knock will snap rods and heat will break ringlands (so can knock). Alcohol solves bolth issues. E85 will take care of the motor at all times but meth will baby it only during WOT.

well now i see why you want a hypertech tuner..

That's nice to know but not every wants to dump a lot of money into a DD.

Are you able to log to verify that its working great? Hypertech just seems like an odd willing choice

I have torque app to monitor and things look good. I did definitely notice some benefits when putting the hypertech on. If you search on MSF, there are some posts by users with good reviews. To criticize the tuner without evidence or just because it is not a AP is normal by many on msf tho and not right imo.

I'm aware of what an AP and custom tune can do. But for now and with my mods, I'm content with the hypertech. If I were to go bigger than stock intake or turbo, I would definitely ditch the hypertech since its limited. There Is a guy on msf who got high hp and torque numbers with similar mods and the hypertech. Name is msms3.

I was kidding about the straight pipe lol. You say straight pipe it and the word hypertech in the same sentence and you could almost hear the cringe.

Oh and hypertech sucks. Just cause 1 guy has a high hp car with a hypertech dosent mean anything.

Also a turbocharged hot hatch is a horriable idea if you are not "looking to dump a lot of money into a dd".

any competent muffler shop should be able to patch up the exhaust.

using a hypertech is just asking for disaster, its worse than even the ots cobb tunes.

Gonna go to one eventually, with my work schedule weekends are the only time.

Where are you getting your info about hypertech being worse than Cobb ots tunes? Post some links as I have done a lot of research and never saw anything close to what you claim.

I don't have time to browse the threads on the old forum. If you blow up just don't complain that you weren't warned.

I'm just saying it's on you to prove what you say. To claim something and then not bother to provide any research doesn't really help your case. Probably against it just because its hypertech.

I don't drive my car hard often anyways. I know the hypertech is not the best tuning tool, but for my mods I'm happy.

After reading this and your other threads I am starting to understand that you are going the cheap as hell route. Careful with that, I'm going cheap too but I purchase used brand name stuff, except for my ebay downpipe that I have yet to install. I will be purchasing a cobb AP down the line too for ease of tuning from online vendors.

Now about having easterbunny provide you with proof, I would urge you to search a little further using google. I just pulled up a thread regarding opinions on your tuning device of choice. I know of only one user who has used that device on MSF and he has quite a few mods. Definitely worth your time.
[doublepost=1554410690][/doublepost]Oh, about your muffler question, I am currently rocking a muffler delete with the stock resonator. It burbles good and has a decent rasp. I have come to hate the drone while cruising at highway speed so I am looking at magnaflow's round-straight through mufflers as they come in various sizes, length & girth (giggidy).
