New owner of a 2013 speed3 as of a week ago. It has about 140k miles and very little rust for being a car that lived in Minnesota its whole life and was driven in winter (my first project on this car will be to fix the small rust spots on the body). I got the car for about 10k including a full set of winter tires. Currently bone stock but I do plan on adding mods to it as time and especially money allows since I'm a broke highschooler (don't worry, I'm not one of those stupid kids that'll beat the crap out of the engine until it blows up). As much as I can, I plan to do all the work on this car myself

I've been doing a little bit of reading on this forum, but if anyone has any suggestions on things such as maintenance (service intervals, what oil to use, etc), mods to do/avoid, anything in particular I should and shouldn't do when driving the car, it would be great! I will continue to read up about these cars.20250315_133908.jpg

Pennzoil full synthetic oil works best for this platform in my experience.

yup it's a good oil of you mean Pennzoil platbut not the best for this platform. if just their base synth absolutely not. I run Pennzoil platinum myself as royal purple is stupid expensive in Canada. here's our engine oil thread https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/best-engine-oil-all-mod-levels.7931/
oil change every 6000miles, I drive 6k km a year and so I do an oil change in spring and fall before winter.

OP do you know the maintenance history? that'll change what's up first, at 140k the timing needs to be done if not already done, intake valve and injector cleaning would also be due.

brake fluid should be bled every few years (3) trans depends best is tribodyn especially in the cold https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/transmission-fluid.10324/

coolant and power steering would be good too depending on age, plugs every what 25k miles gapped 0.026-0.028" I really should update this thread with some of the suggestions in it
https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/spark-plug-data-base.1436/

I would read through the threads in the knowledge base section as most of this is covered there. also before you start adding power make sure you have an upgraded RMM, check pmm it may be getting old, best mounts are damond Motorsports. then before power comes hpfp internals yes before even an intake

Yes Pennzoil Platinum was what I referring to.

If not pennzoil platinum, then what are you using?

I'm using amsoil but it's not recommended either. There is a list somewhere on here of which oils have a specification that helps with hpfp buildup

@Awafrican probably had it bookmarked

I already linked it in my first post in this thread (first link in it) because I do have it book marked.
tribodyn, royal purple and Pennzoil platinum are the top 3 from the thread
