No more wooo wooo noise

Hello all

I finally managed to put an end to the dreadful woo woo noise when you have the steering wheel full turn on very low speeds

The cause is known, it is coming from the LSD which uses clutch pack to differentiate the front axle left and right wheels speed, the clutch pack get worn after many years of driving and no solution for it other than replacing the diff

The same OEM diff in Australia will cost 6.5 K and is not available anymore, also there was no clutch pack available to the diff and the only offer I had was to retention the spring that pushes on the two side gears

So, I planned to change the diff with a non-clutch pack LSD, I got one from Quaife in the UK, which is lifetime warranty and service free, it is a helical ATB (Automatic Torque Bias) differential, which produces no noise whatsoever

I took the gearbox off the car myself and managed to dismantle and change all bearings inside it myself along with the new Quaife diff

No woo woo sound now, and the car even feels much better and more stable while cornering on any speed, the torque steering almost eliminated and the car now follows a line while cornering that is less in both over and under steering, could not be much happier and doing the job DYI is actually not that hard and will be happy to provide all the info required regarding all parts, tools and how you do the job perfectly with least issues you may face

umm the " woo woo" noise can be made to go away with a friction modifier in the transmission fluid.

though if you were experiencing torque steer your lsd was bad anyway

Yes, but I tried everything and just makes it quiet it a bit, but it stays, also the old LSD was rattling, in fact one of the side pinions is completely loose

Friction modifies are bad, I think, for the synchros

Cheers

They are not bad for the synchros it's what the transmission was designed for

Still waiting for part numbers etc... Otherwise this thread is kind of pointless
Hello

Been very busy, I have the word document with all the parts I bought from mazda-parts,com, I will try to upload it

The most impotrant tool is a 20 Ton press, I got for 200 AU$, along with 2 and 3 legs pullers, however, I can put also the full list of tools that I needed for the job, but let me upload the parts needed first

Cheers

Hello

This is the diff I bought from the UK, very happy with it, completely silent

Cool

Do you think I should use friction modifier even if I have a helical diff and not the clutch pack OEM diff? I was thinking of adding it, but I thought I do not need it now after changing the diff

Cheers

This is the document I managed to get with all the gearbox internal parts and from it I managed to get all the part numbers I need

I made over 40 videos on my youtube channel however my audience are mostly Arab people, but on most of the videos I still speak English as my 18 years old son does not speak Arabic, on the other hand, regardless of the language, I am sure it will help you visually, if you are interested let me know, here is a sample in fast/normal motion but there are more in normal motion

The only reason to use it is to eliminate the chatter from the lsd. I haven't run any in my car for the last 90 k miles and haven't noticed any problems other than the woo woo noise so no you don't need it

Could you please upload the word docs themselves not as zip files.

I can email you the documents if you wish, they are very useful and without the one with all parts for all shafts with prices I would not be able to find the parts I needed

Cheers
Appreciate that, actually if you converted to pdf then you could upload them as non zip if you were so inclined

Sure, I can convert them to PDF, I will try again

Cheers

This document has all the parts inside the gearbox grouped by shafts, prices are also included

This document shows all the parts I have bought from both USA and Australia for my project of changing the diff
