So, pretty sure I threw a rod bearing on Friday. After a pull going from top of 4th to about 5k in 5th, my RPM's started hanging and not returning to normal. If I was to let off throttle completely at say 4k, it would stay at 4k for about 5 seconds, drop, and bounce. Pulled over to the side of the road, shut the car down, and it proceeded to shut down awkwardly.
On start, it would immediately die the first attempt, die the second attempt, and bounce on the 3rd attempt. I tried to start it and add throttle. When throttle is added, the RPMs max out and bounce off the rev limited (which luckily I have LC set at 3200 so it wasn't redlining). Checked a few things (couplers, TB, map flash, etc) and everything looked okay. Considering I was close to home, I unplugged my MAF and limped the bitch home.
When trying to start it at the house, it was apparent that there was a grinding and knocking noise coming from the motor. Drained the oil, put a magnet in the oil, and did not attract any metals. We moved the oil to look at the bottom of the pan and there was what @HawkeyeGeoff lovingly calls stripper dust. I'll add pictures and the such shortly but here's the thread to track the build progress (I'll add pictures and videos at a later time).
