Results with PCV set ups on OEM turbo

It seems like there are a lot of opinions on what is sufficient for a PCV system, and a lot of people based that on what has worked for them.

Blowing oil through my dip stick is a great way to rust proof my engine bay, but I am sick of lubricating my accessory belt... So I would like to hear some opinions.

But more importantly, if the oil is coming up the dipstick, I can't imagine what the turbo is putting up with on the oil drain line.

Main Contributing factors:
- Engine rebuilt 1 year ago (40K km): Block was hot tanked to clean.
- Radium PCV plate installed with 1 mishimoto catch can and check valve. OEM new PCV valve retained in the loop.
- OEM style turbo (improved design with better seals, dont remember company name), pushing up to 19.5PSI.
- Hot weather and heat soaked engine + WOT to redline are the easiest way to recreate this condition.

I may do the mod to my valve cover that JohnnyTightlips has a write up on, but clearance is tight with a TMIC.

Given the above conditions (and mod list below), do you believe I need to upgrade my PCV system further or look into a problem with my system?

Tbh. On k04 power, if youre pushing oil out of the dipstick tube, you have an engine issue

How would one go about diagnosing this concern? Could there be clogging in the PCV channels inside the block? I will be pulling my

And more importantly: If I have a functioning check valve to prevent boost from entering the crankcase through the PCV system, does it mean its getting into the crankcase through the rings? Could it still be true with good compression numbers?
 
You need to investigate the whole CV system as there is likely an issue.

The answer to your question is that yes the pressure is coming from the cylinder and getting past the rings
 
So, you seem focused on the pcv valve/plate. I'll tell you right away that that portion of the system becomes irrelevant immediately when the manifold pressure changes from vaccum to boost pressure. It's sealed off entirely with the pcv valve. (at idle and in vac it is important to have with the k04, but that's another topic)

Now all the ventilation of the crankcase is done though the valvecover vent. So, if you don't have adequate flow there (or it's been blocked off) the crankcase will build pressure and start going for the weakest links (vvt solenoid seal/dipstick).

With a stock turbo and a healthy motor the stock valvecover ventilation is adequate. If you are creating more flow than it can handle then there's other underlying causes you must address.

My leak down test revealed that cylinder 1 has about 50% leakage and it looks like it is through the PCV system. All other cylinder are near perfect health.

My research and guess would be a broken, seized or collapsed compression ring and/or ringland crack. I will be prepping my replacement engine and eventually replace it. Temporary fix would be a check valve that opens under boost to allow the crankcase to breath under pressure through the second PCV plate port.

May hear back to me before the end of summer about what the condition of the rings :)
