ENGINE/DRIVABILITY
Year/Make/Model: 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 GT
Mileage: 134,xxx (USDM replacement engine 100,xxx)
Location: Wisconsin Cheese
Concern: Rough running, hesitation/stutter/stumble
DTC's: P2188 / P0138
Modifications: Cobb SF Intake, all else new CS HPFP internals/o-ring, Fidanza flywheel
ECU/Tuning Software: Accessport available
Tuner: N/A
Is the concern intermittent? No.
Can you duplicate the concern? Yes
Recent Repairs: Engine swap. And replaced the following with new OEM: ignitors, injectors, turbo, vvt replaced, disc, pressure plate, TO & pilot bearing, water pump, thermostat, serp belt, starter, non-oem reman alternator, cannot recall spark plugs, but most likely NGK
Correction: incoming MAF - Denso xxx6040 / NTK secondary 02 sensor, TDC Pin (10/11/2024)
Engine recently replaced by a shop and then went through troubleshooting at the Dealer and would not start. Checked TDC (w/o PIN) and re-adjusted cps based on findings. Vehicle finally started 9 months after the swap and parts install.
Allowed car to idle to operating temp. Car seemed to stumble every now and then. CEL did eventually turn after at some point while listening to the vehicle from exterior. I did choose to drive around the block since car sounded okay for the most part. Extremely mild drive up to 3rd gear where I did feel somewhat of a hesitation or stumble in drivability. Again only going around the block.
My main reason of pre-mature posting since I am going to re-check the cps location and replace MAF (oddly found AutoZone paperwork in the car with the same P2188 code) is to question two things. First, I don't recall the Cobb SF intake being there (previous owner), but after the battery reset wouldn't the Cobb SF intake cause issues for the ECU? I apologize for what is likely common knowledge. I am doing what I can by scouring posts and information and I thought I came across that. The MAF needed to be changed so I am replacing, and I have OEM airbox that I can put back for good measure.
Secondly, I purchased an Accessport when I bought the VVT and HPFP internals, so would it be beneficial to plug that in with the existing errors I am getting. Would it help me to further diagnose/test or would it be better to leave it off until all codes have been officially cleared. I don't plan to actually run with the Accessport until issues are cleared and I have a proper tune only considered for the purpose of more information.
I will likely update further information Saturday. I can also post a video of it running as I am also trying to determine if the VVT should be adjusted/reviewed by the initial shop. I feel like I am hearing something when the vehicle starts. It's hard to decipher if the other noise is VVT or if I am hearing the power steering pulley.
