so i want to buy a 1.3 rotary mazda rx8 from 2005 as my first car. I found a really cheap one ($2800) but it has a broken crankshaft bearing. My question is, is it safe to just press in a new bearing? or is it possible that other engine parts are broken as well? and is 2800 a good price? it has 80k miles on it. any tips on what i should look for when buying it?

Well this form is geared more towards speeds and not rotary. However I will say that no it is not safe to just press in a new bearing. Machine work needs to be done, things need to be measured to ensure or confirm the extent of the damage.

The whole mileage thing can very, after owning six first gen RX8's the millage can honestly vary, longest I had one last was 142k miles, and the shortest I've seen them last was 70k miles. from what I can tell it's depending on how the person drives the car, was the car premixed? did the guy say it was rebuilt before?

I don't want to sound terrible, but most people trying to sell rotories tend to lie ALOT. So take what the owner is saying with a grain of salt, unless you personally know the owner.

also when coming into the rotory world you should really factor a engine rebuilt regardless of how strong the engine feels or makes compression. the Renesis is a very temperamental engine unless you take very good care of it. personally I wouldn't pay anything over $1800 over and RX8 with a broken motor, and I have never ever paid more than $1200 for any of the RX8's I've owned. but then again I have never bought a working one, they were good cars to flip back in 2008-2010. but now they turned into the perfect little weekend car.

if you're paying $2800 there must be alot done to it, or the body is straight and immaculate. here some pictures of the previous engines I've built or helped build. sorry if some are blurry I used to have a pretty crap phone.

Looks like a whole lotta nope. I'll stick with Pistons and rods lol. I'll pass on a temperamental triangle. I've never been good with shapes so I can't foresee me trusting my life to a triangle ending very well.
