Turbo thoughts

I hope I’ve got this in the right spot, but I’m looking for some advice.

My current plan as it goes, is to get a corksport cst4 turbo to run on a stock block car with full bolt ons. This includes a turbo back, 3” intake, ebcs, ap3, fmic, bpv, and hpfp. The question is whether I should run the cst4 with the iwg or ewg. I’m not sure what all it will affect only running the iwg aside from having boost creep. But I’d like to have opinions for it if anyone has experience on either setup. Future plot is to maybe run meth, but it’s mainly gonna be 93 until I decide to go full build.

The opposing question though, is whether I should swap for a bnr s3 or 4. I know the s3 is pretty much the competitor, and the s4 stretches a bit more. These also only run iwg if I’m not mistaken, so that prevents the option of an ewg.

Perhaps I’m just rambling a bunch, but just looking for what seems to work best for a stock engine/full bolt on with possible meth in the future, and if an ewg will benefit this equation. Sorry if any of this has been answered before, but I just couldn’t find a personal experience on the cst4 of iwg vs ewg.

I’m happy for any help. Eventually I’ll develop a small thread of actually having this all worked up and put in the car, just trying to discover people’s opinions/experiences on the upgraded turbo front. Thanks again guys!

For a stock block build, I'd go CST4 or S3. CS will give you more headroom at pretty comparable spool to the BNR, and I think the same price point as well. CS will max out stock fueling and can just about max the stock block power limit on e30/methanol; S3 should also get to about the same point but would be maxed out itself, whereas the CS would still have a bit of room to grow if you ever built the motor.

My v2 CST4 didn't have boost creep issues but @JohnnyTightlips did. @mangosmoothie had a v1 and it absolutely creeped.

I think my creep was related to the downpipe, still not convinced that the flap was not hitting the inside lip. I'd go cst4 if you're looking to max stock.

Gotcha gotcha. The cst4 has been on my list since I had my speed 3 bolted until the weather ate it. It was also suggested by Justin from Freektune, so I figured it was a decent setup. I tossed around the idea of using the ewg, just because I know I’ll need it for future endeavors whenever I start tearing things down and rebuilding to make unlimited power! Kidding. But I figure if I can get by without it on a stock build with a possible splash of meth or running ethanol, then I’d be happy saving that extra chunk of change for the time being.

I only threw in the bnr because I see it’s pretty present in this community and I like entertaining all the options. Plus edge offers financing so I can make that move sooner. The goal ideally is just to run around 350whp if I can make it there. If I fall short I’m not gonna cry, especially with running a 6 instead of a 3 and having more drivetrain loss. The methyl ethyl kill you mixes are just fun thoughts since I somehow have access to e85 in my podunk town, and know a guy that can find me any other aux fuels I’d like. I also enjoy being simple though.

I appreciate the replies. Any extra advice is definitely welcomed. As a loose question, how much difference did y’all find in the cst4 vs the k04? Same pull but just kept going past 5k? Or overall different feel that gave you a tickle in the pants? Just curious on what to expect. Thanks again!

If you're staying a stock block, I would personally go with the S3, but I am incredibly biased. But if you plan on doing any building in the near future and don't want to have to buy a turbo, an S4 would be a great option as well, as you'll max stock block and still have a bit if room to grow if you ever decided to get an aux fueling setup.

I would do an S3. The CST4 might creep, the studs and nuts might strip out if you ever need to remove it, and the wga has 2 ports which is begging for a problem (you have to cap one, the caps don't last forever).

The newest S3 should basically be a 2867r. I think you can buy it from freektune and get a free tune for it.

Before you go ahead and purchase the CST4, get your FMIC situation sorted out first. Reason I say this is because I own a CST4 and wanted to go with an under mounted FMIC piping kit, but unfortunately, the CST4 is not clockable (At least not with a decent amount of modifcation). Otherwise, FMIC kits where you don't have to clock the turbo will work fine. I ended up going the CX racing piping kit + TR8 FMIC setup.

If that's the case, go ahead with the CST4, I love mine so far.
