what part is this?!

I tore apart my engine in July, and finally got around to getting everything back together this week IE block, head, and getting all the parts I need.

I thought I did a good enough job labeling things but apparently I did not, and now I am at a loss for what part this is! Can anyone help me identify it?

Thank you so much!

Looks like the fuel line cover. Driver's side of engine, infront of HPFP, behind the intake manifold. Down by the water outlet.

Goes on the behind the intake manifold on the right side when looking at the engine.

Jinx! You owe me a Coke.

What’s the purpose of it if it’s ok a leave it out?
You would have to ask the designer that question.

That being said, manufacturers don't add parts for no reason. They may add it for regulatory purposes or for durability that is usually overcompensated with the Japanese, among other reasons.

I leave it on my car because I don't know what its for, but if I felt lazy, I would skip that step.

I believe it's a shield to protect the metal high pressure fuel line in the event of a front end accident. Perhaps the engineers figured out that with the shield it's more likely that the line doesn't break and spray high pressure fuel all over the place at the most inopportune time.

Personally, I put it back on. That said if you already reassembled everything I'd throw it in the parts pile for now, it's kind of a long way back in to put it back on.
