Which turbo to go with?

Been working on my car since its on standby until I have a new shifter cable arrive some time tomorrow but I have been at work removing the EGR & cleaning the intake piping only to come & find the turbo is leaking. Not a significant amount but it has been building up for quite some time now. The car is a 2010 with about 106k on the odometer & the original K04. At this point I'm looking at the various options I have available at the moment to swap.

I have considered just getting a used K04 for dirt cheap & sending it off to BNR to rebuild for me which is about $200 plus the cost of the turbo. Second option is getting a BNR S3/S4 & tuning the car to a reasonable amount to what it currently is at just to keep the motor alive as I set myself up with a spare motor & parts for a full build. Third option I had in mind was the Corksport turbo since they have a offer right now that includes the 3.5 bar map sensor & all the gaskets. I also remember hearing a couple of guy facing various issues with the turbo itself. If I go with the upgraded turbos I would definitely toss in a Guardian Angel to protect myself from major issues.

What would you guys do in this situation? I am planning to go for a built motor in a very near future so this is why I am considering the other turbos.

BNR is an excellent choice, personally I'd stay away from the CS. If you have the money especially since you're planning a built motor my personal choice is an EFR 7163

Thanks for the response, I have had my share of good luck with their parts but I've heard mixed reviews on their turbo. Guys having over boost issues to other things I can't quite remember. Gotcha, I'll look into that turbo. Direct bolt in or need different manifolds?

Bnr S4v2 has anti surge porting now which is awesome. Not sure if the s3 has it, s4 as a slightly lower spool ( maybe 2-300rpm than s3) but goes! I like the idea of the s3 for responsiveness. Efr will need a manifold and exhaust...edge sells a kit but it's $$$ you'll also need to customize an intake witch can be done with some extra tubes etc from siliconeintakes.com. yup CS has had overboost issues and from what I've seen has no plans to fix their shit
 
S3 all the way, especially with your mileage. It's a lot more sprightly around town than the S4 without having the top-end, which isn't really as much of an issue (IMHO) once you're getting past 100k miles on the odometer anyways, you know? Besides, you need aux fuel to make an S4 shine. Superior responsiveness is also why I'd choose an S3 over a CS, too. And don't get me wrong: S3's have very decent top-end. With proper supporting mods you can easily hit 370-380whp with room to spare in terms of boost/timing, so you have a good safety threshold.

EFR7163 is my long-term goal too, when I build. But I'll be honest, a Gen II GTX3071r spools faster than the Gen I (though it's certainly no EFR) and could easily support my 500whp goal. A setup for it would probably save a good bit of coin too, though I'd likely go T3 inlet or V-band/V-band outlet instead of the horrible Mazda flange.

Well, you'd pretty much have to. The Mazda flange is known to flow like crap. I'd be leaving a ton of whp on the table if I stuck with a Mazda-flanged Gen II GTX3071r. No way.... total waste of time/money to not do it right, you know?
 
Built motor? What are you goals for said future motor?
 
If you want 450 you'll definitely need aux fuel meth at a min, if 400-450 is your goal the s4 should fit the bill nicely

Yeah most definitely. I'm planning to get my hands on a Devils Own methanol injection kit with maybe a progressive controller. Still thinking what route to go with that.

You'll probably want to move away from a stock flange then. Time to look at manifolds.

Haha that is true about that, I'm just seeing what would fit into my current budget since I'm trying to get rid of my tmic & install a fmic setup instead since the tmic makes it a pain to work on the car plus I can keep my BAT's relatively low.

CS revised the hotside for their turbo. Seems like the only people who have overboost issues with it now are those who don't set proper preload on the wastegate. *cough moose cough* Not to mention that the overboost issue was blown out of proportion, to begin with; it was something that needed to be remedied (which they have worked on) but was realistically only happening to a minority of owners.
