  1. ECU Learning & driver habits

LOL, I've been in this scene for way too long to get piled on like a brownie back on MSF in 2012. Maybe it's the mediocre Autolite plugs that I've been using for the last year, or maybe it's something else. Suffice it to say that I feel a noticeable drop in smoothness at 8-10k miles, I take the...
  2. ECU Learning & driver habits

Yeah, no. The car's fine. 8-10k miles is within Cobb's expected plug change interval for a modded car as per their Accessport documentation.
  3. ECU Learning & driver habits

I appreciate this reply. I've gone to an 8,000 mile/every 6-7 months replacement schedule because plug degradation is noticeable after that point. FWIW the ITV-22s would foul out even sooner, which is why I stopped using them. Low-intensity daily driving is not kind to step-colder plugs. Are...
  4. Wheel Thread

Stock GenPu wheels powder coated in Prismatic Powder's Ultra Black Chrome. Was on the fence about painting my old curb rashed wheels or getting a new set, and because IMO, these wheels still look fire after all of these years, I kept them. You could release a model year 2021 car with these...
  5. Seicane Android Auto install

Yes, it's a little wonky (my upper dash display reads "Raise Tech" for no discernable reason and I haven't been able to get SWC to work yet), yes the stock launcher and menus are full of Engrish and are terribly laid out, but I scored this head unit for $100 new from Seicane on closeout. This...
  6. ECU Learning & driver habits

These days, Autolite XP5364, stock heat range. I ran ITV-22s step colders for several years before this. Are you thinking that plugs have something to do with it?
  7. CX-7

So VVT just like a GenWon, turbo issues, which isn't typically an MS3 issue, but solvable, and anything else? If I buy one of these to daily with my 4 year old in the back, can one of these (provided that it has been taken care of) cart us around reliably? Gas mpg is not particularly good, but...
  8. CX-7

I'm looking for a new bad weather daily/winter beater, and am inches from pulling the trigger on a CX-30 lease, but I just stumbled upon a CX-7 with the DISI and around 100k miles for sale near me for around $6500. I'd always heard that there were severe reliability problems with the CX-7s, but...
  9. Spark Plug Data Base

What kind of life are you guys getting out of plugs these days? I've been going through them every 8-10k-ish these days. There's always a point where I can feel shit starting to feel rougher, I go and pull the plugs, and find that the gap has gone wide and that the plugs are clearly done. The...
  10. ECU Learning & driver habits

Hey guys, Question for those of you who are savvy on the inner workings of the MS3 ECU. I've had my Speed (mostly bolted, Stratified tuned) for almost 10 years and have been doing a lot of boring driving as of late - kid daycare dropoffs, grocery runs, etc. I have stretches of multiple days...
  11. Recommendations for Tuning. Freektune vs Stratified. Crackle or not.

Fuck crackles, don't give the platform a bad name. We're better than that.
  12. [SOLVED] Hypertech tuner

So much conjecture in this thread, not to mention all the hysterics from some of you guys. I'm tuned via Stratified at the moment (formerly Dizzy, until he stopped apv2 support). Prior to that, I ran an HT for about 3 years. I've had my Speed for just shy of a decade. HT is fine. Don't expect...
  13. Stutter at low throttle openings

Definitely more pronounced when hot. I wouldn't typically notice it in open loop; only in closed loop and at cruise. It was also never present at about more than 10% throttle (i.e. not ever an issue at WOT).
  14. Stutter at low throttle openings

Totally. For a long time, the MS3 gospel held that a bolted K04 car running on 93 should use step colder plugs. I'd always wondered why I would get only 6 to 9 months out of a set. Definitely staying with stock heat range plugs now, given the relatively mundane driving I do most of the time.
  15. Cold Start Idle - Tuning Solutions

Yeah, I use the throttle tap method daily. Would be nice to just have it be the default.
  16. Stutter at low throttle openings

I'm pleased to report that this problem is now fixed. It wasn't cheap, but the stuttering/surging is now undetectable. I replaced the following a few weeks ago: VTCS Solenoid Primary 02 New set of stock heat range plugs (was running step colder) After this, plus several hundred dollars of...
  17. Cold Start Idle - Tuning Solutions

I reached out to my tuner, Stratified, requesting this exact change to my tune, but they had no idea how to implement it in ATR. Thank you.
  18. Stutter at low throttle openings

Issue is still ongoing - took it to a shop, and the tech thinks it is VTCS related, as I had a historic fault code triggered by a bad VTCS solenoid that was later replaced, but I'm not sure I agree - datalogging is showing weird, intermittent spikes in STFT that make me think this could be a...
  19. [SOLVED] Misfire/Hesitation under slight load at highway cruising speeds

Yeah, below 3,000rpm. However, my logged fuel pressure is looking fine. I gave up and took the car to a tech, and we went out to log with a scan tool. The logging data apparently shows an issue with the VTCS system, which make sense as I was getting 'VTCS Stuck Open/Closed" codes earlier this...
  20. Low RPM hesitation/stutter on acceleration

By HPFP "Housing", do you mean the actually HPFP itself, as opposed to the internals? Glad you found some resolution with this. It's an odd failure mode though, and not one that I've typically heard of with these cars. HPFP failure is exceedingly rare.
