- My son totaled his 2012 Mazdaspeed3, but what a sweet car that was. We had just gotten it the way he wanted, had a good tune on it, racing seat, everything. Oh well, what are you going to do?
- He found a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6, which I had shipped up from Florida. Of course, he wanted to add some parts, so I agreed to use the difference in the insurance money and the price of the car to get him a few; cold air intake, turbo-back exhaust, high pressure fuel pump internals, low pressure fuel pump, blow off valve, plugs, coil/wires, battery, and a stereo (which has not yet been installed). I really spent more than the difference, but it was Christmas and everything. Besides, some of this stuff is hellacool.
- I installed most of the parts myself, but I think my son installed the cold air intake. For one reason or another, once the intake was installed, the car would turn over (crank), but would not run - it seems as if it is not getting gas. We tried adding the stage 1 tune on the access port - no luck. There was some air box like thing down in the lower, front, driver's side of the engine bay (almost in the bumper cover), which we have covered. It seems to be like an air induction you might see on an old car, but I really don't know what it is. I think my son was able to get the car to run very rough, for just a few minutes, with that thing covered with duct tape. I stuck an old gas cap in it, because thats the size of the tube that would have gone to the original air box.
- I do not hear the pump running (under the back seat), although I replaced it with the higher capacity pump. I can straight wire it, and the pump definitely works. Even with the pump straight wired, however, the car still will not start.
- One last thing I'll mention is that when I try to start the car, and pump on the gas pedal, I hear a vacuum sound, almost like a blow-off valve releasing. I don't know if that indicates a vacuum leak, because I don't know what this car is supposed to sound like. I have heard that certain vacuum leaks can prevent these cars from starting.
- If you check my profile, you'll see that I am pretty darn old. I am more comfortable working on older carbureted cars than these electronic fuel injection motors with an ECM or ECU or whatever you call them. I am a little out of my depth in diagnosing this problem, so I came to this site to beg for your help. I'd really like to get my son's car running for him (and then I can get back to work on my 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata project).
- Thank you for any help you can give me.
