So I have an issue and I've tried everything I can think of along with the help of @Raider and John at TORK. Here is everything I know about the CX and things I've tried....
Car info:
2011 Mazda CX7 2.3L Turbo AWD
110xxx miles on original block
Mods: none. Had HPFP internals, ETS TMIC and CS stage 2 intake...now back to stock
Decided to do a basic tune up about 10K miles ago. Bought NGK step colder plugs, oil and Trans fluids changed
Got CEL of P0302 (misfire cyl 2) about 200 miles later. Talked to @Raider and he told me to gap them, duh. Totally forgot (stupide me)
Pulled the plugs and gapped them to 0.026-0.028 reinstalled them.
Still Misfiring; P0302
Took cyl 2 plug out and swapped it with a fresh NGK step colder plug. ran good for a few days and P0302 came back.
Next I tried to change all the plugs with the proper heat range (thanks Justin England) because since I'm stock there is no reason to go step colder. This time I put in NGK G-Power plugs gapped to 0.026-0.028 and added in fuel injection cleaner (lucas) into the tank. I also bought 1 new coil for Cyl 2. Seem to run fine for a day then it started misfiring again in Cly 2.
I took the car to TORK on Wednesday this week to have them diagnose the issue and fix it.
While there:
Compression test done. 200-205 at each cylinder
hoses checked
Camera put in each cylinder to look at the injectors spray pattern. Cylinder 2's pattern looked a little different that the others so the thought was the injector might be bad. John put in the tank another bottle of injector cleaner. Cleared the CEL and said to drive around, it might clean it off. He also suggested that maybe the EGR needs to be cleaner while we're replacing the #2 injector.
CEL came on again less than 5 miles away. P0301 (misfire cylinder 1). This has been the latest CEL. I called John and told him the misfire moved to Cyl 1. He said its most likely the spark plug. Get a new set. I went to Mazda and bought OEM plugs, gapped them and put them in today. Car ran like dog shit after I got done. I thought to swap the Coil in Cyl 1 and Cyl 4 to see if the misfire moved but it hasn't. Still running with the CEL on Cly 1.
Other tidbits of info:
Seem like when i floor the gas I can only get to 5200 RPM and it shifts. When I flip to manual I can get it to about 5000 RPM and the power seems to plateau. no gains.
When I'm cruising and the RPM is about 2000 it makes a weird droning noise kinda like a flat tire and starts to shake a little, I give it more gas it down shifts and the drone goes away. Not sure if any of this is relevant but thought I'd add it in.
