Since this section exists I may as well post. Thread # 2 and EFR build # 2 lol.

I picked up a 2013 Miata Club (PRHT) with 35k miles about 2 weeks ago. Its super fun and handling is amazing. Its a shame not to make it fast, the chassis feels like it can handle a lot more power. I admit that I picked it specifically for the MZR 2.5L swap potential.

I took it to an autocross last weekend and it handles pretty awesome, as a bonus the PO had Azeni RTK615K+ tires and RPF1s on it which definitely helps.

I also autocrossed the speed3 the next day and it did great. Boost by gear and the quick spooling turbo feel way better on an autox course than the BNR S4 pre motor build. It grips even better than the miata in a corner with no throttle application. Not really a fair comparison, but whatever lol.

Did some baseline data gathering as well:

...pretty interesting AFR curve. Crazy to see it makes such little power. The short gearing and light weight really make it feel like a bit more.

Did a couple Dragy 0-60 runs as well. Couldn't even get under a 7.0s with 1' rollout lol.

Also did a 60-100mph pull for comparison purposes against the speed 3:

Not too shabby.... only about 4x longer than the speed I gotta fix that.

These Fab9 EFR kits are extremely hard to find used, I got really lucky to find this by posting a WTB thread.

Some parts of the kit arrived, rest are arriving next week:

Fab9 3" Exhaust, parts of it are ovaled to fit the transmission tunnel area.

Side by side with my EFR7163, looks identical as expected lol:

Also ordered a low boost EFR wastegate, on initial install I will be limiting torque to what the OEM clutch can handle (~220Ft-Lbs). Mostly because I just got the Miata 2 weeks ago and have never driven a RWD car before this. Trying to learn and grow with the car before making it a monstrosity.

The rest of the turbo kit came in. Its gonna be a while before I actually install all this, but I'm slowly amassing parts.

Ordered a used speed 3 MAF sensor for the additional sensor range. Also got my Tactrix Openport 2.0 for ECUflash. The miata community has some crazy opensource tuning support. Looks like they have ALL of the ecu tables exposed... Also flex fuel support with all the blend tables... Insane capability for free software.

Broke it in with a crackle tune... versatune would be jelly of my opensource crackles. Might as well ruin the cat before it goes in the trash lol.

So I finally got around to the turbo install. A destroyed catalytic converter kinda forced my hand (courtesty of said crackle tune in my previous post lmfao)

Not gonna lie, the install is a pretty big pain in the ass to do in a parking lot. It's an early kit so it hadn't had the kinks worked out yet.

Test fit the turbo/manifold:

Slight massaging of block and PMM stud for fitment:

Also ended up having to cut a pretty large chunk off the the passenger motor mount itself. Hopefully I don't end up with my motor on the road lol.

Got the oil drain situated:

Intercooler mounted and a hole cut in the rad support:

Also got the oil/coolant done, but no pics for those. Ended up going with one of the heater core lines and the return to the coolant overflow tank. Not sure if this is how its meant to be done, but I think it should work.

Got the "downpipe" and full 3" exhaust installed as well, no pics of those. This is how it sits right now:

Kinda stuck with the alternator and intake fitment right now, its a royal pain in the ass to get the alternator and intake on. The alternator is pretty much sitting on the turbo. Stupid long EFR turbo lol.

Yeah, I feel like a crazy person lol.

Got it mostly buttoned up and started it to check for leaks.

No leaks, but I'm getting a battery light on startup. The 4 pin alternator plug is plugged in and the car is charging @ 13.4V at idle. Not sure what I'm missing. I have the little ground strap to the bracket near the alternator and a ground to chassis. Any ideas?

I do still need to finish some stuff to actually drive it. Waiting on a GM 3 bar MAP sensor and Fab9 battery relocate kit. Ordered it a week ago and no news on shipment...

Also prepared a base map for when its ready to drive. Not gonna swap to the DW 800cc injectors until I'm sure the MAF curve is alright though.

Got the injectors and MAP sensor installed and everything is looking good. The 93 octane map is somewhat dialed in on baby boost. Also optimized spark for the loads I'm hitting.

I think my MAP sensor calibration might be off a tad. I should be hitting ~ 6-7 psi with the low boost cannister on 3mm preload. The numbers seem in-line with 6-7 psi as well.

It absolutely rips in 1 and 2nd gear. Kinda excited to do a 0-60 and see how close it is to the speed3.

I wanted to run a Cortex EBC, but its been out of stock for a long time. Might end up running a ghetto MBC until they are available again.

Thanks, I actually just reached out to Cortex and they do have them in stock, just no pressure sensor. Gonna buy one from them.

Couldn't help myself and went out to do some 0-60 pulls. The speed is still faster from a dig, which is kinda crazy. It's getting there though. Actual boost is 5.5 lbs, made an error when putting in the MAP scalar on the earlier v dyno

Started getting a bit bored of not doing any fun car stuff, so started working on the Miata again.

Ended up doing the battery relocate in the trunk and adding ~50 lbs worth of audio lol,

Also made the switch to full E85 and upgraded the in tank pump to an Aeromotive 325lph (same as the speed). Pretty much maxed out the boost control at 12-13 PSI. With it setup as-is the clutch slips on about 4/5 pulls lol.

Also updated 60-100 with clutch slipping all the way through 4th gear:

Still got a couple fun things to do before winter hits. Have a Clutchmasters FX350 on the way. Also installing a flex fuel sensor that will give me full flex fuel tuning over canbus. Probably gonna push timing a bit further and hit up a real dyno as well.

Next spring I'm going to make the switch to a turbosmart IWG and 4 port solenoid and push the stock block to the limits. The 2.0 seems to flow pretty well up top. Thinking if I can hold 250-270wtq at redline it'll make 330-360whp in a relatively 'safe' way. Do need to upgrade to larger injectors before I can do that though, maxing out the DW800s on full E85 on the current tune. Also need to swap to the extra Mazdaspeed MAF I have to get a bit more range.

Thanks guys, i've got a warm fuzzy feeling muh ballz now.

Got the E85 flex fuel stuff in the mail and installed it. Very easy to plumb in with the correct adapters, literally took 10 minutes.

Used an OBD2 pigtail to make the install super easy. I have a splitter permanently installed so I still have my OBD2 port.

Routed the sensor harness through the hood release grommet and tucked the box up and out of the way.

Voila, can log my E content and check it in realtime by hitting the cruise control 'cancel' button thanks to the awesome opensource development for the platform:

Pretty much have full flex fuel functionality with blend tables for AFR, Timing, IPW, etc. Don't be jealous

Just waiting on a new OEM flywheel that is taking forever to ship to get the clutch installed, slipping every time I go past 50% throttle is getting old. I'll get some vids once I have that taken care of.

Finally got the clutch installed and also hit up a dyno. The pedal feel with the FX350 is lighter than stock, which is crazy. Pretty impressed with the dyno results, I was expecting closer to 300whp. Timing with full E85 definitely helps.

The dyno RPM reading was a off by about 200rpm, but this should only affect the torque reading.
