Hey whats up guys n gals im new to the MPS community and hella excited to be a part of it. Movin on though, i just got my car 4 months ago and im loving it(2012 Mazdaspeed 3). But i was wondering has anyone tried switching to awd? Ive seen like 1 forum on it and i believe its actually on this site. But im wondering what all i may i have to change and re-route to even get a possible estimate on prices and parts that may be needed.

The cheapest and easiest way is to sell your car and buy a speed six

The ones that have been converted required a ton of fabrication, which if you aren't doing yourself would be cost prohibitive

There is a guy who did it using CX7 parts but it costs a LOT of time, effort, and money. Is it worth it? Not really dude. Just buy a speed 6. It's already AWD.

You're going to have to cut and splice Speed3 and CX7 control arms, modify fuel tank/evap system, modify the exhaust, run new wires, etc. It gets pretty extensive and will the end result be worth it? No. Cause you'll have made the heavy hatchback even heavier, you'll have lost power through the drive train all just to make it AWD.

When the money spent could go to upgrading the turbo, the suspension/brakes, tuning, etc and you'll have a really fast well handling machine. I don't know if it's your daily driver, if it is then it isn't some weekend project to knock out on a Saturday/Sunday. Going AWD will take months, maybe a year or two depending on how much time you can devote to it AND if you can find a viable donor CX7 for cheap.

My guess on price? A used non running blown up CX7 probably between 2500-4000

Welder, tools, metal, etc probably another 1-2k

Custom parts such as driveshaft and other odds and ends you can't make yourself 2-3k

I may be estimating high, it may be low. But don't start trying to do something like this, then bail halfway through and end up parting out the car or scrapping it. Good luck to whatever you decide.

I would say if you have the time and like to tinker, send it. Life's not always about money, you can learn a lot from a project like this.
