So this is all about how to properly clean different components of your motor. You may go to AutoZone or O'reilly and get overwhelmed by all the different types. Start second guessing yourself, whatever. Or you might live out in the Styx and have no other choice. Anyone who wants to chime in is welcome.

That engine degreaser is for hardcore muck on the engine. You need to cover the alternator, starter, and battery to use that on the engine.

For alternators and other electrical parts they sell special electronic cleaners at any auto part store that wont damage any of the components inside.

Clean it, and let it sit for 24 hours to dry.

I agree with using electrical parts cleaner. It helps to use an old tooth brush to scrub the case while you spray the cleaner.
