I'm tryna get another motor on the side to build so I can throw it into my '13 MS3. It's my daily driver but I wanna be in the 400-450whp area. I was planning to go with H-Beam Rods, aftermarket pistons, bearings, etc on the bottom end, but are sleeves necessary ? I see a lot of ZZB stories where the rod or piston bursts out of the block. Are the weak points of our motors the rods ? Or is it the sleeves not being able to handle it ? Any input will be appreciated MSO fam

Rods are the weak point. The only need for sleeves would be an extreme over bore or shooting for four digit hp
Cool, I appreciate your knowledge. As far as rods and pistons, do the 22.5mm vs 22mm wrist pin diameter make a difference in performance ? Or just availability of pistons ? And should I always look to get 88mm pistons to maximize bore surface area ?

Pin size doesn't matter and your bore sie will be determined by the condition of the block you use and wether it needs to be bored or not
