Hey y'all, new here. But I am at a point in putting an engine in my 12 speed3 and I have some questions.
So basically its a 2012 speed3 that I bought off my buddy because the engine was no good, and he needed the cash. Well now I am tearing into it, engine is out, new to me engine getting ready to go in, waiting on the clutch kit and accessory drive stuff to come in.
The engine going in is from a CX7 turbo. Previous engine blew the head gasket and the head and deck are warped, and I don't want to send it to a machine shop.
What is holding me up, is this VVT issue I keep reading about. I don't really have a ton of money to get this vehicle up and running, and this clutch I had to add onto it puts me right about where I wanted to be for my max budget. So basically i wanted to know if there was anyway to determine if this work had been previously done. Part numbers, visual indicators, features of updated parts, anything like that I can look for so I don't have to go get a VVT kit. There is no indications on the front cover or cam cover that indicates that the cam chains were slapping them, but as a tech, I know that could change the minute I start this thing.
Anyway, any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I did do some googling to see if anyone had an answer already, but I didn't come up with anything. TIA.
