Car loses/cuts power in 4th and 5th gear

If your engine smokes, it's gonna fuck up your cats to the point where either it will throw a code, reduce performance, hurt the engine further or all of the above.

If it does smoke and is consuming oil (which it is, so probably smokes too) then you need to do something about getting it fixed. How long have you owned this car before it started having this issue? If you recently bought it, then the prior owner probably hurt the engine and sold it to you without saying anything.

I have three years with the car. I’m the second owner of it and got it with 40k miles and right now it has about 98k. I’ve always kept it serviced up with all the maintenance and obviously some pulls and WOTs here and there. It honestly started happening with that problem after I installed the Dammond PMM.

Wouldn't help in any way, if anything in the event it is your turbo you would make it worse.

I see exactly what you mean. Well I would have to get a downpipe if it is the turbo if I were to get an aftermarket turbo too right? What’s the identical turbo to the Ko4?

PMM isn't going to make your car have these kinds of issues. Using bad oil/bad fuel or a bad tune would though.

Unless I go back to the penzoil platinum 5w30 and then Im thinking of switching out the pcv valve maybe that’d help and then even try a different tuner.

Hey guys its me again sorry to bother but im about to put a Corksport Turbo soon with all supporting mods but that power cut or engine bog happened again so i want to get that fixed first and this time I actually got it logged. I wanted to see if you guys can take a look at it and check to see if there's anything weird or bad. The "bogging" starts when there's knock and the only different thing i saw was the spark adv. changing.

ENGINE/DRIVABILITY

Year/Make/Model:
2013 Mazdaspeed 3
Mileage:100,660miles
Location: Denver, Co
Concern: Car bogs up or cuts power near 3k and above rpm WOT and happens in 4th-5th gear
DTC's: No DTCs
Modifications: Autotech HPFP, Corksport cat back exhaust, corksport 2.5 stage 2 power series intake and TIH, Corksport TMIC, JBR boost tubes, Ebay 50/50 blow off valve, CpE flex rear engine mount, Damond passenger motor mount, NGK 6510 1 step colder plugs
ECU/Tuning Software: Cobb AP
Tuner: Alan @ Edge auto sport
Is the concern intermittent? yes
Can you duplicate the concern? Only sometimes when going WOT
Recent Repairs: Changed oil and filter, new air intake filter, new plugs as well.
Correction:

If it is bogging that's probably cause the engine is registering knock and the ECU is pulling timing to prevent damage. Did you gap your plugs recently? And stuttering/misfiring at all under heavy load?

Yes sir possibly less than two months ago I swapped them all out and gapped them at .28. And under heavy load you mean WOT? Because that really only happens in WOT in those gears.

Put a couple of falling of ethanol in at your next fill up to determine if it's real knock or something banging in the engine bay or suspension

Sorry man never dealt with ethanol, what exactly do you mean by falling of ethanol? I’d like to give that a try forsure to see if it’s real knock.

Yes heavy load is WOT or hard acceleration. Does it get choppy and break up as in spark blow out or does it fall on it's face like it hits a wall or a lack of fuel?

It falls on its face as a lack of fuel. You can feel like the whole engine and front end like shake and vibrate when that happens.

Gallons sorry autocorrect basically 2-3 gallons of e85 mixed with a full tank of regular gas will be enough to prevent real combustion related knock without throwing off the fuel mixture too much for the O2 sensor to compensate. If it still knocs with e in the tank you have something physically banging on the car. Since this only happens at higher speeds this would be my first guess. You should also look around the car for anything loose

No worries but thanks man I appreciate your help! I’ll definitely give that a try once I go thru this tank of gas. And yes I’ll give it a better look as well again.

Log shows knock then immediately reacts with both enrichment of fuel and reduction of timing which not only do not reduce the knock, but also severely reduce power output. You've either got bad gas, bad oil getting into the cylinders, or something else going on. Adding 2 gallons of E85 to the tank on the next fillup will diagnose if this is chemical or mechanical knock.

There is no lack of fuel per the logs.

Also, you can add the E85 whenever so long as you can get two full gallons of it in the tank, then top off with 91.

Thanks for the help Enki, I’ll forsure go fill up with those two tanks later and see what happens.

So today I got a chance to do a WOT in 4th gear twice and it ran so smooth and no knock at all. What would this mean? Can I get away with adding E to my tank here and there? Or would I have to get tuned for it? I do want to say that I did have to add oil this morning cause it needed some.

Are you running any kind of catch can? Or does the oil smell diluted by fuel?

There was e in your tank when you did the pull today? If so start checking the items enki suggested

No catch Can yet, should I get one forsure? And it actually doesn’t smell diluted.

Yeah there was e forsure last night when I did the pulls. One thing I checked and noticed was that there was oil and oil residue all over the Intercooler piping and the tip of the turbo that goes from the TMIC to the turbo.
