Cas' 800+ or Bust Build

So I'm switching to VersaTune. Just placed my order. Can't wait to rev out to 8K and actually be able to control my car.

Also, getting a 75mm throttle body from @Sho. This was part of the reason for switching to VT but I thought about it more and it just makes more sense to get rid of the accessport. I'm gonna be looking around for a mini tablet to monitor stuff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
[doublepost=1499101162][/doublepost]Found this guy, unless someone has a better option then I'm probably going to get this. Edit: Well my link isn't working but it's this, Ematic Quad-Core Intel with Windows EWT732BL 7" - 32 GB Tablet. $54.22. Can't get much better than that from my brief searching.
Keep in mind VT recommends about 2gb of ram.

I have a tablet that has only 2gb of ram, I haven't had issues other then 1 crash. Tho since I've just been using my laptop for flashing and logging.
Would hate for it to crash while flashing lol.

Thank you for pointing that out. I wasn't really paying attention to that part, I was just looking for a small tablet that ran Windows 7 or higher. I did find a HP Stream 8 on eBay for a solid price. I'm still in a bidding war right now but hopefully I win it.

You're welcome.

I was aware when I bought mine, but it was a rather cheap tablet and only bought it to experiment and see how it would perform.
For reference, it is the Teclast x80 pro.
Basically some cheap Chinese dual boot (windows/Android) tablet.
Its size is good imo, came with a USB adapter, however it has a god awful wifi chip in it, that for any half decent dl speed it needs to be next to the router....
So for that and it only having 2gb of ram, I wouldn't rely on it or recommend it.

So I received my tablet and installed VersaTune on it, it looks solid. I'm super pumped to get this installed on my car.

Got my SP63 3.7 Final Drive in. I don't know how to install it but it looks cool.

Side note, I updated 90% of the pictures in my thread after the photobucket incident. There was one that I didn't have anymore and the other was a gif. I'll see about adding them later.

My versatune setup is just like yours. I had a hard time hitting the start and stop log button on the tablet while driving so i paired a ps4 contoller to the tablet and bound all the buttons to spacebar. Its a little easier to hit.

Oh nice, thanks for the tip. I don't have a PS4 but my Xbox controller might work if it comes down to it.

Small update:

Stole this^^ but 100% accurate.
In other news, Kevin started putting my motor back together! He sent me this picture, 1/2" headstuds vs OEM :D

Another update:
I'm ditching the I-beams for H-Plus rods due to the price difference. I didn't know the 625 bolts were another $500-600 on top of the ~600 rods with ARP 2000 bolts. The H-Plus rods should be sufficient for my build. Also.....I bought a SP63 head with single runners.

Along with Supertech +1mm Intake valves and OEM size exhaust valves. Bought a valvetrain kit from the same guy. I'm hoping my 1/2" head studs will fit the new head, he said it was drilled out for 1/2" head studs but you never know.

I'm looking at cam options now because I might as well at this point. Still waiting on the 16w fab intake manifold and that is what's holding my build up. Everything else is ordered/arrived or isn't needed immediately. I'm going with an OS Giken twin disk clutch which is fun.

I am very interested to see how you like that OS Giken twin disk, I haven't heard of anyone yet running that. I know twin disks are tricky on 4-cyl cars unfortunately.

I'm actually going to be using @etipp98's old clutch and Oddball is going to rebuild it. The only thing is you have to shave the flywheel bolt heads down so the disk doesn't contact them but other than that he said it was a great clutch.

Kind of a big update:

I'm going up to Cleveland the weekend of Dec 1st and busting out a lot of work on my car. Pretty excited to start getting it back together. If all goes according to plan the bottom end and trans will be assembled that weekend. I was going to pay Oddball to do the trans but I decided to do it myself to save some money on labor. Hopefully I can take apart the trans, install the LSD, shift forks and the 3.7 final drive in a couple of days with zero transmission experience LOL. I found a thread on the old forum that will for sure help with the LSD. I'll have to go through the shop manual so I can get an idea for the other items. It seems pretty straight forward just don't lose any of those ball bearings or springs. Any tips are appreciated if you've gone through the trans.

If time allows I'm just going to through the fuel system back to stock and not worry about the PI right now. I have most of the items but I'd rather just get my car running first and worry about that later. I saw that Perm Tuning has been testing a double in-tank pump setup and I wanted to reach out to get details but haven't had a chance yet. I had another idea instead of designing my own basket. During my research, I found that the Evo X uses a very similar if not the same basket as we do in our cars. I was thinking about testing out the radium engineering basket for the Evo to see if it'll work. Our level sender look identical so it should mount up exactly like the Evo's. I need to call Radium to see if the two Aeromotive fuel pumps that I bought will work with this setup but I think overall this basket will fit in the tank and be exactly what I wanted.

Also I decided to change up the manifold for the time being since 16wfab is taking forever. I saw in a facebook group that they are planning on being done by the first of the year but I wouldn't be surprised if it went into summer honestly. I'm going to run the ST manifold with the Damond adapter, I think this is the best option because the cold pipe shouldn't have to be modified much or at all.

FYI....Thats the response I got from Perm regarding the itfp

Unfortunately there's not much demand so we probably won't be seeing the polished product for awhile. I'm going to stick with my Radium idea for now.

On another note, I went up to Cleveland to work on my car this weekend. I got the trans completely apart, took forever since we didn't have all the SSTs that the shop manual calls out. I ended up renting a 5 ton puller from Oreilly's and it worked perfectly for most of the job. I didn't start the reassembly because we bent some of the snap rings getting them off and technically they are replacement parts anyways. Also I messed up one of the cone bearings which was another part that was supposed to be replaced. I'm going to go back up in a few weeks after getting those parts so I can finish. I'm actually planning on posting up a "How to" thread on the final drive swap, LSD and shift forks when I'm done so I won't flood this with too many pictures but here's a handful of my work over the weekend.

Here's the sleeved block with one headstud in to show the girth

Stock axle on the left, DSS 5.9 level axle. It's super beefy, the picture doesn't do it justice.

Here's my setup with taking the trans apart.

Mandatory Chik-fil-a break with @Sho

Had to make this setup to get the gears apart during this step.

Finished (minus the bearing on the bottom left shaft, that was easy to get off)

Block8Head triple vent pod.

Drilled the inside of the vent ran the wires then installed. I'm definitely happy with the way it looks all mounted up.

Overall it was a pretty successful IMO. I also picked up my super head and it's going to get a bath at the machine shop. It's getting closer!!

Awesome would love to see a write up on the transmission. I might be doing this someday.
