Cas' 800+ or Bust Build

Decided to work on my car the last week or so. I think @JohnnyTightlips inspired me to not be so lazy with the car now that his is running. (Congrats btw!)
Took this yesterday because I thought it looked good. Yes still on winter wheels, more on that below.

I fixed a few of the small things on my car that have been bothering me since I got it back, just never got around to doing the work. Fixed the front bumper so the passenger side isn't sagging, re-ran oil pressure and temp wiring so it's not zip tied to the bottom of the radiator, and fixed some of the missing/wrong tabs on the bumper. Started putting AN fittings on my fuel lines, pretty much have the return side done in the engine bay. My first time messing with it so I was trying to figure out how all of it worked. I had to start over several times due to the steel braid getting unwound too much. The best strategy I found was to use electrical tape and wrap it ten times or so then cut it with some kind of power tool. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel. Once that was done I peeled back the rubber coating on the steel braided part and slid the hose end over it. Finally put the feral in place between the steel braid and Teflon hose then mated the pieces together.

I had four tires ready get mounted on my new wheels, two were Federal 595 RS-Rs and the other two were M&H Racemaster drag radials. I didn't realize when I bought them they were 6 years old at the time. Fast forward to now they are 8 years old so I just decided, with safety in mind, to toss them. I'm going to buy two more 595s for just a daily setup and then get some MT ET street tires for my FD wheels when I'm making big power. The new wheels look so good, I can't wait to get them on the car. I'll be buying the 595s for the other wheels soon.

Also I ran the power wire for my fuel pump and all the wires for my WOT box through the firewall. I'll be working on some more wiring items tonight. I need to get my other two guages (Oil temp and PI fuel pressure) powered and working. I think that's it for now.

Proud of you! Keep up the nice work. :)

Got my new shoes on, I drove to work this morning with them. The car seems to have settled a little more in the rear than what is shown in the pics. I noticed they were rubbing slightly when I got to work. Going to be raising the rear up a tad so they don't rub. I thought I would need to roll the fenders but as of now I don't think it's necessary. The only thing that bugs me is the fronts can't use the center caps because my DSS axles stick out too far. I'm sure I can find something that fits if I look around. Other than that I think they look really good and happy with the fitment!

I'm sure I posted it somewhere else in my thread but I'll just throw this here is anyone is curious and doesn't want to look.

Car looks great, very clean and unassuming.

So where do I start, went to raise my car up a little in the rear after putting the new wheels on because I was rubbing a bit. Well I was being an idiot and thought I needed to take my spring out to adjust the height of the little perch it sits on. Nope you just use an allen key, it's been 3+ years since I messed with it so I forgot it was that simple. Well I started to take the bolt out of the LCA where it connects to the trailing arm and ended up breaking the bolt off in the LCA/trailing arm. F me right? It gets better. I unscrewed the bolt just enough that I couldn't grab it with vice grips on the other side luckily (sarcasm). So I attempted to drill the bolt out next and thought I was drilling straight but ended up drilling though the bolt and through part of the welded nut on the trailing arm. Next idea was to cut the trailing arm flush and take the welded nut off but that didn't work so it ended up just heating everything up so it basically welded together. I broke a 6 dollar bolt and ended up having to replace both the LCA and trailing arm, ~450 dollars from Mazda. Didn't feel like looking around for used one so I just went ahead and bit the bullet since I F'd up in the first place. I got it all replaced one weekend ago and it was good to go. Car was down for a month trying to get all of that fixed, it was a PITA sharing a car with my wife and she wasn't thrilled to bring me to work when she works nights.

Monday rolls around I just to work just fine and on my way home I decide to open it up a little and do a 3rd gear pull. I still don't really know what's going on but my clutch went spongy when I went to downshift coming up to a light. Downshifted to 2nd and then threw it in neutral, light turns green, I put it in 1st and nothing. I guess I got an air bubble in my clutch line because I couldn't go anywhere. I ended up having the push the car to the side of the road, a co-worker happened to see me so he helped me get it off the road. I was towed home and had some local friends come over, they helped me bleed the clutch. It still feels spongy but it's drivable right now, I suspect more air in the line. I made it through the week and went out of town on Friday for my cousin's wedding so I haven't touched the car yet since bleeding the clutch. If you're still reading, just to add to the cherry on top. The night before we leave for the 9.5 hour drive to Mississippi I took my pup to my in laws. We'll I get all the way to Dayton, 30-40 min drive from my house. I go to downshift in 2nd coming up to the intersection off the highway and it starts grinding then pops out. I made it to my in laws then limped it home going from 1st to 3rd. Drove it yesterday and today to work, I'm able to use second but I have to hold it in gear the entire time.

I'm honestly about ready to sell the car and move on to something boring. Oh and my fuel line keeps popping off the fuel pump, I forgot to mention that happened at the same time I had to get my car towed. I fixed it while waiting on the tow truck and it happened again this morning. Takes roughly 15 minutes for me to open the fuel tank and fix it which isn't that bad but when it happens every other week it's not acceptable. I'm going to look at switching back to the stock top hat to see if that fixes it, I don't really know why the line keeps coming off. I'm using all the correct hose clamps and it's like the fuel pump doesn't have a big enough lip on the outlet port. On the bright side I'm not blowing the lines anymore.

I bought a 1-wire alternator kit for the Camaro to try and get it working again. It would be comical if I can get a 50 year old car to be more reliable than my 6 year old one. Anyways that's it for now, I feel slightly better typing all of that. Some of the issues are self inflicted with the car and some aren't, I knew it wouldn't be easy driving a car this modified but damn I can't catch a break to even start turning stuff up.

Are you thinking of doing a single pump with the hellcat pump? I know that has been successful for people lately. It is pretty shitty they keep popping off. I wonder if there is too much pressure due to how it is setup. How is it all ran right now? Is your return not big enough or something like that?

As far as the fuel line popping off goes, try using a PTFE line like this one:
http://www.radiumauto.com/Submersible-PTFE-Fuel-Tubing-P672.aspx

You need to heat the line to get it to go over the pump outlet and it creates a pretty strong seal.

I have a feeling it will all be fine when I get the PI hooked up, I just keep having all these small issues that stop me from working on getting that hooked up. I may try a different pump if the PTFE line that andale posted doesn't work. I'm considering going back to the stock top hat and just using bulk head fittings but we'll see.

If you can't get the clutch bled you may need a new slave cylinder. Before you do that though bleed the brakes and the clutch at the same time. If I remember correctly @phate had the same problem and bleeding both at the same time cleaned it up something about sharing a reservoir or something but he has a six so it may not be the same
