I've got the spin on oil filter conversion kit coming in the mail. Who's done this and how difficult is the install? I don't figure it to be hard at all just wondering if there's anything specific I need to know. Thanks in advance.

I did it about 2 months ago. Its not hard but u will also need to remove the oil cooler. This part i forgot about and didnt have extra coolant. Other then that its just tight space

I do not recall removing oil cooler and dealing with coolant.
Be gentle with twisting oil sensor wires.

I did not have to remove the oil cooler. It was simply take the cartridge flange off and install new screw-on filter flange. I didn't even take the cartridge filter off, just went straight for the flange/adapter piece. Four bolts, very easy. You may need a shorter wrench to reach one of the bolts if I recall correctly.

What? The oil cooler had a single bolt holding it to the housing. If u look at ur new spin on u will see the top part is not sealed correct?

I have a 08 ms3. I am sure all gen 1 are the same unless we are talking ms6. I know nothing about ms6.

You can see it here in both pictures.

Pro-Tip. Make sure engine is cold. I did it when hot, got a bolt snapped off at the head and got to tow it to a shop to get drilled and tapped because no EZ out would work. Fun times.

Last Friday I attempted to do this and was able to break loose the 3 easier bolts, but the ones on the top closest to the passenger side where the oil cooler has that bulge, I wasn't able to get a socket on all the way and be able to turn the wratchet. I think I may have partially rounded the head off. So I had to install a regular filter for the time being so I could get oil back in it some I was leaving for the weekend the next morning. Any suggestions?

You will need new hardware to install it, for sure. There are tools to loosen bolts that are stubborn. Make sure the engine is cold.

Which hardware and tools? There's almost no sufficient room to work a wratchet or wrench in there.

Well order new bolts of the ones you got. Edge can get em. Get those from them or local dealer first. It's s tight fit but with proper tools, it's ok.

I dont remember the tools i used but it was a easy job. U prob just need a swivel socket
