Hello! I personally don't have a MazdaSpeed anymore but when I sold my shell, I stole the nice auto-dimming compass mirror from it. Fast forward 2 years and I've finally installed the mirror into another car. That's grand but it's been staying on "E" no matter which way I turn.
Here's the mirror in question:

With the death of "the other forum", all my googling lead me to useless mazda6 forums which is obviously unacceptable.
Anyway, here are a few tips to get that fixed -
1) push and hold the power button for > 9 seconds to enter calibrate mode (screen will read "C"). At this point, you drive slowly in up to 3 circles to the right and the compass should start showing the right direction.
2) adjust the mirror's variance by holding the power button for right about 9 seconds until a number pops up. This number corresponds to your location on a map! Push the power button to scroll through the different locations. Once the right number is displayed, just wait a few moments and the compass display will return. Here is a variance map for the USA:

Other variance maps are attached to this post in a PDF document.
Hopefully, this helps someone get their compass either working again or a little more accurately.
