Seconded. Prior to building my motor the most complex thing I had done was replace the head gasket and that was intimidating to me. Prior to that, replacing the timing belt on my former 2003 Hyundai Elantra was the most I had done (which was relatively easy ).

People here are very helpful and there is lot of information available. I also have a brother in law who has built a number of engines, and I’d ask the machine shop dude down the road sometimes.

If you have the time you may find it satisfying.
