Hi I'm new to this forum, I just bought my first manual car and I do not know much about cars in general but I need help.

Year/Make/Model: 2010 Mazdaspeed3
Mileage: 100000
Location: California
Concern: Parasitic Battery Drain and Faulty Alarm system, (I dont know if these are related)
DTC's: P2006
Modifications: I don't know brands and stuff but it has a cold air intake, catback exhaust, and a BOV.
ECU/Tuning Software: IDK
Tuner: none?
Is the concern intermittent: No
Can you duplicate the concern: I guess?
Recent Repairs: None to my knowledge, repair soon though.
Correction: Im looking for a correction.

I bought this car off of someone just less than a month ago and the battery was dead and he told me it just needed a recharge and I thought we were good we recharged it and we went home with the car. A few days later the battery died again, I recharged it and the again a few days later it died again. I bought a new battery and we were fine for a week then now its dead again. In this time we've had it the car alarm would randomly go off in the night and mornings but almost never in the afternoon. After conducting some research I am assuming the issue is that there is a parasitic drain on the battery and it may be tied to the faulty alarm system (idk tbh). Has anyone had this issue and solved it? Any clue what it might be? Any fixes?

I've seen this so many times over the years. Especially 2nd Gen. It's one of the sensors in the doors that senses when the door is closed. I cannot remember the name and it's 6 am so I'm not fully awake yet. I'm sure my fellow experts will chime in soon.

The door latch and sensor is a whole assembly. My passenger door went but it took forever to figure out which door it was. In the meantime keep the door lights off so it doesn't drain the battery as much

Buy a whole bunch of door trim clips when you go to do it as you will break about half of them no matter how careful you are

How did you finally figure out which door was the cause? Also I’m sorry I don’t know car parts very well, what are the names of the parts I should be buying other than the door trim clips? Thank you for the quick response btw.

I was driving and the interior lights came on I was able to look at the dash quickly enough to see which one was lit up

Thank you for everything, I’ll keep a closer eye on my dash. You’ve been so helpful, I can’t thank you enough.

Good luck it annoyed me for a couple of months before I figured it out

Disconnect the battery when you change the lock I blew out the body control module when I swapped mine
