Noob owner of a 2012 speed3 G2. Picked it up recently. Has some mods.

Mods
CS CAI
Turbo smart 50/50 bov (set up by PO full recir)
Custom exhaust (muffler and res delete)
Cobb V2 AP

The tune is run off cobb AP map stage II? According to PO, the protune was flashed by dealer during dash board recall and is now locked.

Planned mods

HPFP internals
EGR delete
OCC

Maintenance items
Oil change (valvoline vr1 10w30)
Spark plugs
Vc and spark plugs tubes
Clean out cone filter
Seafoam treatment (not sure if valves are sludged up. PO didn't use as DD)

Welcome.
seafoam won't actually clean your intake valves need to get in there and blast it with walnut Media there's some how to valve cleaning guides around here.

The dealer locked the ecu? Seems odd the the dealer would flash a Cobb tune and lock it... Definitely get hpfp internals in asap with a proper tune asap because the Cobb maps are terrible and the gen 2 speeds don't handle mods even and intake well without a hpfp.

Thanks for the welcome. The PO said that he left his ap in the car and somehow, the dealer did a reflash. When he got the car back, the protune was locked. I have to dig into the ap to know for certain.

Working on getting the mods together and tune it.

So far,

Turbo inlet pipe
EGR delete
HPFP internals
OCC
mounts

Basic maintenance items.

Dumped the datalog this morning, found static AFR @ 14.85. According to my buddy, he's concerned that it's a cobb map and can go zoom zoom boom.

Just driving normal for now. WOT is @ 11-12 AFR. New to turbo and wanting to understand the numbers.

Welcome! Your ride looks sweet! Good luck with the mods! Get ready spend some money and love every second of it!!

welcome man! do you have a downpipe? i see custom exhaust is listed, its that just after the cats? if it is a downpipe, i would not really drive it much without the hpfp done first

Hey @automaticonlyspeed3, thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately, it's my DD and it must be driven. It's not driven crazy. The PO had a custom built exhaust. It looks to be 3", but stock down pipe.

The parts are ordered and waiting for delivery. I could park it for a week, but that's pushing it. What's been ordered:

CS HPFP internals
CS turbo inlet pipe
EGR delete kit

Considered the DP, can't buy it now. Might go find a used one and maybe I get lucky and find one before I get the tune done.

@travman thanks for the props. Yeah, I had to shop and spend some of it. I discovered after I purchased the speed3 that the AP is setup for a COBB generic stage II tune. It's not even datalogging accurately. Which bugs the heck out of me.

Plan is to go to a good tuner in the area and praying that the AP will be datalogging properly. I don't care for mpg. For me, its spg!

Do not go to a local tuner. Use a etuner
This so much this freektune, purple drank or hypnotic. Etune will net you the same gains as the same peramiters are monitored as on a dyno, if you don't want to speed on the road then a remote dyno tune is your best bet. Too many "good local tuners" (unless one of the speed tuners is actually local) have blown up speeds because of the difference in tuning logic plus not knowing limits of block

Congrats on the speed man and welcome! Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to help answer them. Had my speed 6 for about 5 years now and have learned a lot. Just take your time doing the hpfp internals and keep it all nice and clean with fresh oil while reassembling.

Thanks for this, but have no clues of tuning period. Just know that my speed3 is my DD and don't need, not afford a 3200 pound paper weight. This could be an option in the future once it's pro tuned.

@StreetSpeed6, thanks for the welcome. Over the summer, I've contemplated on getting a speed3 or 6. I settled on the 3 because I wanted something different. TBH, if I could pull it off, I would have done a boss wagon build on the Mazda 5 that I already have. Sadly, it's not manual.

I've had hatches in the past, but all were 3 door. Picking is my side gig atm and having a hatch allows me to take larger items from the yards home.

Side notes. I've been told that the AP needs the wide band o2 recal every so often. Does this correlate with the AP reading wrong data when datalogging? I've now dumped a day's worth of logs and it will not post rpm above 2k. The car has been put away for the next week.

It's my mona Lisa. Lol.

I think you misunderstood the only pro tune is an etune. Do not under any circumstances take the car to a local tuner to be Dyno tuned

Why do an etune without a dyno? I will do the dyno tune.

I could be wrong (ask my ex-wife and she’ll tell you I often am wrong) but I think what they’re suggesting is to have a professional (online)tuner like those at Stratified or Freektune use some of your recorded Accessport Maps logs to provide you with a custom tune. From what I’ve seen these guys KNOW their stuff. The mazdaspeed platform is fantastic, but a little quirky and it doesn’t follow other popularly tuned cars’ same rules for increasing/maximizing/efficiently tuning our cars. Oftentimes there is guess and check with tunes, requiring some fine-tuning (pardon the pun) later on, and unfortunately some on-site dyno tuners miss the mark by too much on the first or second tune resulting in some zoom zoom boom.

Like I said, I **think** that’s what the other guys on this forum were suggesting. If I put words in anybody’s mouth that I missed the mark on, please correct me y’all!

Anyway, much love and do what you think is right. It’s your ride and I know you’ll love it so long as it is healthy.

Thanks for clarifying this. It sounds like it can work, but I prefer a dyno because butt dyno tuning is more difficult than an actual measurement.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Just the fear I have is that even with all the data, and since the ap is not accurately recording, that the numbers are drastically different.

The other day, I logged my drive home. AP never showed rpms above 2k. So if I have that to an etuner, with the mods this could be catastrophic to me. Not sure why the AP is reading wrong. If you want to see the logs, I will be happy to upload them.

Yo! That fear is real. With it not recording properly, that makes total sense

Then you have a different problem. Even on a Dyno they will need to use the logs from the ap

So I gotta side with Easter Bunny and everyone else on this, definitely go through an etuner. From what I understand about it
A. Dyno shops aren't really in it for the limitations of your build, they just run it rich and push as far as they can
B. Etuners won't charge you per flash but Dyno show charge by the hour
C. You're more likely to find an etuner that will talk with you and maybe help you understand a little better as to what exactly they're doing to your tune.
Is not as expensive as you would think, that's what I would suggest, personally. Cuz from what I can tell, you n I are about in the same boat. Just search my name, I've been having a hell of a time with my '12 ms3 trying to learn how to tune myself.

I haven’t dealt with/heard of janky APs, can Cobb fix them/reset them/anything??
Perhaps, but their v2 support is done I believe.
@Pcktrckt I'd recommend updating the firmware on the accesport, then unistal it, check maps on it install stage 0, and see how that goes if it doesn't then it's time to reach out to Cobb to see if they can help. Even stage 0+sf would work for you probably better because of the intake
