GenPu Front Bumper\Grill Air Intake Path

I recently bought a BaysonR grille and sent it along with my lip and fog light bezels to get hydro-dipped in a carbon fiber finish.

While taking the bumper assembly apart, I noticed the intake scoop does a kind of loop around where it would connect to the stock airbox fresh air intake tube/hose.

I have seen some speeds on instagram that put a vent straight onto their bumper cover - but do you think trimming this area would allow more cold air to flow directly to the intake? Or am I just totally off? Pics below.

Dont think any extra air to the intake will matter if its feeding into the engine bay and not a box. Isnt the OEM air feed from the passenger side?

There is an equivalent "scoop" on the other side of the grill not in the pictures. I don't run a cold air box so I guess any benefit would be negligible, especially at speed.
 
Isn't the after turbo air temperature a lot more important than the inlet turbo air temperature? Wouldn't improving intercooler be a lot better?
 
The intake feed is in fact from the passenger side.

You can cut holes and get creative for the intake, but before you go crazy and cut a ton of holes remember that you do need to keep some of that air focused on going through the radiator. Remember that air follows the path of least resistance.

You can monitor IAT (intake temp) and ECT (coolant temp), and figure out what works best for you.

I have a 3.5" intake and kept the passenger side duct that holds the coolant lines under the hood, but I actually used some plastic sheeting to focus more air through the radiator.

Did any of these guys that posted the stuff on Bookface, also post any temps for their coolant? I would be curious how they are running.

Intercooler is probably a more bang for buck, but think of it more as a delta temp from intake to after turbo. If it starts out 10 degrees cooler it helps the after turbo temps that the intercooler has to sink to the air.

You wouldnt see much of a difference in coolant, as the thermostat would mask most if any difference until it was full open or closed. RIght? The pressure delta from before radiator to after, at speed (I think) would be the only way to directly measure differences/effectiveness.
 
Coolant temp would rise quicker, and drop slower. Temps would run higher while driving.

I've seen the Speeds on Instagram with the intake hole/vent thing on the front bumper leading to the Intake. I don't really like the look of it that much but I am a bit curious to know if there was actually any benefit to having the vent with no air-box to support it.

You would think that having more ambient air rushing into the engine bay near the intake air filter would only have positive benefits but I'm no engineer so I don't know. However I do think that when it rains, having that vent there may not be the best thing.
 
I'm surprised people still do things like this. In what normal world situation is this worth anything? none. that's how many. if you're just building a car for fun and not serious competition, don't fuck with the airflow. it's just not worth the time. you wanna start pushing tracks and the quarter, you'll be doing much more before that.

I agree with this. I'm sure most of the people on Instagram with the hole in the front bumper are just doing it for looks. As for any benefit from the added airflow would be negligible if any at all.
