Yes we've got a brand new friction washer installed on there and a clean surface all over for the most part. I still have some pieces of old sealant I need to sand off on random places where the cover seals, though.

I've got a copy as well as a couple YT vids and I definitely don't see anyone talking about it but typically there aren't little notches or indicators unless they go somewhere specific (based on very limited experience, lol) Below is the little indicator mark I was referring too.

Ohhhh, you said pulley so I presumed it was the belt pulley.

Yeah, no difference, it literally does not matter which direction that goes.

Got the engine timed up yesterday. I think so anyway:headbang: Didn't get much farther than that. Sucks having only an hour or less daylight after I get home from work. Anyway, I was missing the timing cover seal so had to order one and should be here today so we can get timing cover back on today. Got the rest of the old sealant scraped off so it's ready to go.

Not sure where we will go next from there. Probably start working on putting the exhaust side back together, get turbo back in, etc. and work towards the front. Seems like the more challenging aspects are out of the way now for the most part. If all goes well, should be able to try to start this mother fucker this weekend. Getting excited. Had this car for a couple months now and barely been able to drive it.

An hour a day isn't much, but it gives you the ability to not miss anything because you can take your time and go slow. Moving to fast makes for mistakes.

When you say seal, you mean RTV right? Also, I would get the cover on and timing finished, then spin the crank 4-8 full rotations and check timing again to make sure all is accurate and still in time before moving forward.

I would not do anything else until timing is 100% confirmed.

Yessir RTV is what I meant. And true guess it's not fully finished until that's on. Lol. Getting ahead of myself. Will do. Appreciate the advice.

Okay misread my own typing. SMH. This is what I meant by the seal. But yes RTV IS what I have for sealant for the edge of the cover

May need a little assistance finding the right one. Believe this is it, but you may know of a better vendor/option.

For all new OEM parts, edge is problematic the best. This is the exact seal you need.

Also, did you get new VVT solenoid seal and valve cover gasket? I usually try to replace these with every single timing job. Even if they aren't leaking, it is good preventative maintenance.

Great. I have ordered most of my stuff off of edge. Have not gotten a new VVT solenoid seal but just ordered both of those. I did already get valve cover gasket and new manifold gaskets as well

I haven't see that dot on any of the OEM stuff I've pulled apart... You're thought process/worry about it needing to line up with something wasn't a bad worry... On a different type/brand of motor that would be used to line up to a specific link when timing the motor... In this case, it's showing you simple direction of install... meaning dot faces towards you... So you've got it on correct..

Could anyone remind me where this goes? I can’t even think of what it is. Looks like it comes from boost controller?

Edit - never mind. Goes to the wastegate

Lazy on pics once again. Get too distracted figuring things out... lol. hopefully remember to get some more in the AM. Spun the crank over a few times manually and timing appeared to be good still (thanks for the tip rokusek). Got the timing cover put on today as well as the exhaust manifold/turbo mounted up. New CPS put on as well. We couldn't get the the thing above into the wastegate with the manifold on so we had to take everything off just to get it on there and put turbo/manifold back on. Might be missing something else we did. It's been a long day. Put about 3 hours into the car, though.

Tried to put the fuel pump on and whatever it is that it connects into that slides onto the end of the cam. Fucked with it for a while and then realized that I have to actually take the fuel pump off to have the piston thing compress and install the fuel pump back in after the fact. (if that makes any sense). Messing with that part took way too long so we ran out of daylight. BUT. Getting closer. Feeling confident that we can finish it up tomorrow. Low temp is only 48 so hoping to start early and the day is open to dedicate the time to it.

welllllllll FUCK. \

Got it all put back together today and tried to start it and it won't start. I'll turn the key and it'll start to crank but won't go. Used 3 of my previous fuel injectors and one of the new ones I got. First time we tried to start car the new fuel injector was basically just pissing fuel out. Took it back apart, put all of the original fuel injectors back in like it was before we started, and still won't start up. It is no longer pissing fuel out of the injectors, though, which is good. The fact that it was getting fuel to the rail I think is also a good sign, just don't know what that means for everything else.

Check all your grounds. Specifically the one for the coil/injector harness that's on the plate on top of the fuel pump housing?
