How does the throttle position sensor work?

Still having some issues with my heart transplant, tried to keep things stock but I'm getting to the point it's causing me more issues than it's worth.

Making things potentially simpler I'm considering swapping out the intake manifold from the mazdaspeed to the mx5 mk3 intake, there are some dissimilarities that I'm working out how to convert.

However it looks like the mx5 throttle body has the tps built into it? The mazdaspeed is separate and so I am wondering how it actually works, this part is near on impossible to see with the engine the way it is, but looking at the pictures of the part it looks, and I'm guessing here, that the black bit is a pressure sensor of some sort, if so I'm struggling to understand how that actually measures the throttle position

Answered my own question, after reading the wiring diagram and still not any closer, I watched a couple of videos that gave me an indication of what it was, then a post over here about error code p2006 answered the question.

It turns out while everywhere I looked named this as TPS (the tps is built into the throttle body, same as the mx5), it's not, it's actually variable tumble control system sensor, after that it was clear how it works, my guess was right and the push sensor works of a leaver.
